Adanya temuan rendahnya pemahaman Bahasa Inggris materi taking simple phone
message melalui metode Role Playing pada siswa kelas XI Perhotelan SMK Negeri 4 Bontang,
hal tersebut menjadi dasar bagi peneliti untuk melaksanakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas.
Melalui hasil diskusi kami dengan guru Bahasa Inggris di SMK Negeri 4 Bontang untuk
menangani kesulitan siswa di atas, maka Penelitian Tindakan Kelas ini dilakukan dengan
menggunakan metode Role Playing.
Adapun yang menjadi tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk: 1) Mengukur peningkatan pemahaman
Bahasa Inggris materi taking simple phone message siswa kelas XI Perhotelan SMK Negeri 4
Bontang dengan menggunakan metode role playing 2) Mengetahui proses peningkatan pemahaman
Bahasa Inggris materi taking simple phone message pada siswa kelas XI Perhotelan SMK Negeri 4
Bontang sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan metode Role Playing.
Penelitian ini juga menggunakan tindakan kelas (Classroom Action Research) dengan 2 siklus,
dan setiap siklusnya melalui empat tahapan yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan dan
reeksi. Data yang diperoleh berupa lembar kerja siswa, lembar observasi siswa dan guru, lembar
motivasi serta nilai hasil pembelajaran. Sasaran penelitian adalah kelas XI SMK Negeri 4 Bontang
tahun pelajaran 2019/2020. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya peningkatan hasil belajar dan
aktivitas belajar siswa dengan hasil belajar (ketuntasan) siswa pada siklus I sebesar 79,17%
sedangkan pada siklus II mengalami peningkatan sebesar 100%. Berdasarkan data di atas dapat
disimpulkan bahwa metode Role Playing sangat tepat untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa dalam
pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris materi taking simple phone message. Metode ini dapat diterapkan
selain untuk pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, juga pada pembelajaran mata pelajaran lainnya.
