Abstract
Islamic boarding schools are one of the oldest Islamic educational institutions that act as
da'wah centers and centers for the development of Muslim communities in Indonesia.
However, not only that, Islamic boarding schools are also a fortress of defense and a strategic
place to unite ranks in the face of colonial attacks. During the Dutch colonial period, Islamic
boarding schools experienced trials and tribulations. This was because of the Netherlands,
which severely restricted the movement of Muslim pesantren and tried to weaken Muslim
pesantren. Despite being unfairly treated by the Dutch, the kyai and santri who lived in remote
villages were still able to unite and develop a solid Muslim community, which in turn became
the nation's stronghold against colonialism and Indonesian independence. In this journal, we
will discuss the role of the At-Taqwa Bekasi Islamic boarding school in dealing with Dutch
colonialism, including the role of all elements of the Islamic boarding school in it.
