What is idiom?

a group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the
individual words (e.g., rain cats and dogs, see the light ).
Sederhananya, idiom adalah sebuahkata, atau frasa yang tidak bisa kita terjemahkan secara
literal/harfiah, karena perbedaan konteks dan makna yang tersirat.

Idiom adalah alas an kenapa dalam belajar bahasa inggris kita tidak bias asal menerjemahkan
kalimat dengan kata per kata, karena banyaknya konteks dan frasa yang biasa kita temui
dalam percakapan sehari-hari native speaker.
Apa itu expressions dalam bahasa Inggris?
Expression atau ungkapan bahasa Inggris merupakan hal yang sering diungkapkan dalam
percakapan sehari-hari. Baik saat kita sedang berada di bank, rumah sakit, di kantor, maupun
meminta pendapat, meminta maaf dan dalam kondisi lainnya

Expression dipelajari agar kita(non native speaker dapat memahami penggunaan istilah dan
ungkaan sehari hari sebagaimana para native speaker menggunakannya.

Perlu dicatat bahwa expression lebih sering digunakan dalam bahasa kasual sehingga lebih
besar kemungkinan tidak mengikuti formula grammar yang kita tahu. Namun karena sudah
diterima secara umum, maka tetap bisa dipahami oleh mayoritas english speaker.

Apa perbedaan Idiom Dan expression?

Idiom lebih rumit karena tidak dapat digunakan serta merta secara harfiah. Sedangkan
expression lebih mudah dipahami karena kata dan artiannya lebih mudah diterjemahkan.

Dalam kesempatan ini, Speaking Partner menyajikan kesempatan belajar 30 idiom dan20
expresion yang umum ditemui saat berbicara, terutama pada native speaker. Kita tidak perlu
menghafal semuanya, namun kita perlu mengetahui dan memahami maknanya. ^_^
