INTRODUCTION
Teachers must come up with innovative approaches to teach language and increase students'
motivation to study if they are to keep their interest in language acquisition when they do not view
English as being crucial to their requirements. At all educational levels, mastering English as an
international language is crucial. Unfortunately, after studying English for several years at school, the
majority of pupils are not happy with their proficiency in the language. Of course, there are a variety of
causes for this issue, but one that this study is particularly concerned with is a lack of drive.

Growing evidence suggests an interrelationship between music and other academic domains
including language learning (e.g., Patel, 2003; Schön et al., 2008; Moreno et al., 2009), and academic
achievement in other non-musical areas of learning (Vitale, 2011). English using music can be a highly
effective and engaging way to learn the language, as it provides learners with a fun and memorable
context for language learning and allows them to express themselves creatively through music (Vera &
Luna, 2013). Using music in the English language classroom can foster a sense of community and
collaboration among learners (McCaleb, 2013).

This approach is predicated on the idea that singing can engage learners emotionally and offer a
memorable and meaningful context for language learning, making it an enjoyable and effective way to
learn a new language. This approach uses singing approach as a teaching and learning tool for grammar.
Due to its ability to facilitate group engagement, socializing, and collaboration among students, music
therapy can also contribute to the development of a positive and dynamic learning environment. This
method can be modified to fit the requirements and interests of diverse learners and used with a range of
age groups and language competence levels.

It has long been argued that singing in class is a useful additional method to aid language
learning. Research reveals that singing improves pronunciation and vocabulary memory in the L2(second
language), as well as phonological awareness when learning the L1(first language). Singing can also help
with grammar learning. This research was conducted to find out how learning strategies using the singing
ability approach technique aim to improve grammar learning for Hasyim Asy'ari University students.

METHOD
This research focuses on the condition of grammar learning from The 3 rd Semester of The English
Language Department at Hasyim Asy'ari University. The aim of this research is to study singing activities
in grammar learning through experience in English Language Department classes. In this research, we
collected data by conducting library searches, searching for relevant sources, searching for data via the
Internet and observing information in class. We process data and information using qualitative research
methods. Some of the techniques we use are literature study, questionnaires and observation. A literature
study is carried out by collecting data from written sources such as books, journals and articles. The
questionnaire was carried out by distributing question sheets to five 3 rd Semester students of the English
Language study program. Meanwhile, observation is done by directly observing the research object to
obtain the necessary data. After the data and information are obtained, we continue analyzing these data.
We use qualitative analysis methods, such as case studies, phenomenological approaches and others, in
this process. The results of this analysis will help us identify relevant patterns, conclusions and solutions
to overcome the problems analyzed.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

Based on matters related, in this research results and discussion chapter, we will explain the
results of questionnaires that were carried out on students in the 3rd semester of the English study
program when learning grammar by singing took place. The selection of informants can support research
related to English grammar learning strategies using a singing skills approach to English grammar
learning strategies. The results of this research obtained a question sheets which was distributed. This
technique is carried out to obtain accurate data.
This questionnaire was distributed to five respondents consisting of 3 rd semester students of the
English language study program.
The synthesis of the questionnaire obtained is:
a. The Third semester students of the English language study program have been familiar with grammar
since elementary school.
b. A number of the third semester English language study program students are studying English
grammar.
c. The Third semester students of the English language study program have received material about
grammar.
d. Five participants stated that they needed a grammar learning method or system that was more fun and
not boring.
e. Five respondents liked the singing method used in learning grammar.
f. This singing method has been successfully used to make the class atmosphere more exciting.
g. This method can help make grammar learning more effective.

This analysis focuses on the singing skill approach to English grammar learning strategies. This
singing strategy is applied in class when grammar learning takes place. By observing directly how this
method is used to study grammar, we get appropriate results because the data and processes that occur in
the field are more relevant.

Singing is a musical activity that many people enjoy, which increases positive affect in both
adults and children (Kreutz, Bongard, Rohrmann, Hodapp, & Grebe, 2004; Welch et al., 2009). Because
second language learning often experiences setbacks and fragmentation in the learning process, the
mediating role of positive affect may be especially significant in this context. Therefore, it is not
surprising that motivation and positive affect have proven to be important variables influencing second
language attainment (Dörnyei, 2005).

Singing seems like a great way to teach grammar. First, according to Good and Russo (2016),
younger students typically respond well to group singing and may not be discouraged by their voices
breaking off or other maturing effects. Second, explicit grammar teaching (e.g. explanation of grammar
rules) may be more challenging for younger learners, although even younger learners can benefit from a
combination of implicit and explicit teaching (Stanat, Becker, Baumert, Lüdtke, & Eckhardt, 2012).
(Cameron, 2001, p. 106). It is interesting to note that older students perform better than younger students
when learning foreign language in the classroom (e.g., Jaekel, Schurig, Florian, & Ritter, 2017). This
benefit may be explained by their higher level of cognitive maturity, which allows them to understand
grammatical explanations more easily (see also Cummins, 1981).
Using singing as a teaching method has a number of benefits that make it a successful and
efficient teaching strategy. The following are some of the benefits of this approach:
1. Increase motivation and engagement among students
Students are very interested in songs and music. Singing songs allows students to actively participate in
the learning process thereby increasing interest and motivation to learn.
2. Improve memory and listening skills
Students will learn how to listen and memorize information more effectively through the process of
singing. Due to its repetitive rhythm and melody, the songs used in this technique are easier to
memorize.
3. Promote innovation and teamwork
Students can use the singing method to express their creativity by modifying song lyrics or including
other elements, such as body movements. Additionally, this approach encourages songwriting and
group singing among students.
4. Present facts more charmingly
The learning process becomes more interesting and fun with singing techniques. The knowledge and
ideas that students want to learn are made easier to understand through songs.
5. Improve Language Skills
Students will learn to improve the pronunciation and articulation of words through the singing method.
Their language skills will benefit from this.

Learning analysis using the singing method approach, show positive results. There is a significant
influence on enthusiasm and motivation by using this singing method approach. Apart from that, it also
increases student activity in class and can make the class atmosphere more enjoyable. Apart from that,
from the research results, there were no students who answered that it was less interesting or even not
interesting. This shows that students are very interested in using the singing method, they are also
interested in using digital media in its implementation. Apart from that, the way teachers teach also
influences the implementation of learning. A teacher must have an "attractive" character, in the sense of
being enthusiastic, active, always smiling, and friendly towards students. The ability to utilize technology
is also an important part of implementing the singing method approach in learning.

CONCLUSION
We have realized that many aspects require examination and revision based on the collective
project completed for this final assignment course. This time we raise the issue of English grammar
strategy, which is a topic that will continue to be discussed when studying a foreign language.
The overall aim of the project is to explore the impact of singing on English language learning,
particularly grammar. We assume that the singing skill approach used can help improve their grammar
learning. We hope that this singing method approach can bring more positive influences and reduce
negative influences to help understand grammar learning. There is a significant impact on enthusiasm and
motivation as well as making the class atmosphere more cheerful and enjoyable by using this strategy.
The teacher's ability and the way the teacher teaches also influence the implementation of learning.
