Bagaimana pembuatan nanozeolit dari zeolit alam secara top down menggunakan
high energy milling untuk penyerapan ion Fe3+ ?

TUJUAN

Untuk membuat nanozeolit dari zeolit alam secara top down menggunakan high
energy milling dan menentukan kadar ion Fe3+ yang dapat teradsorpsi zeolit biasa
dengan zeolit nano.

Prosedur
 PEMBAHASAN

1. Pengayakan zeolite alam

Tujuan dari pengayakan dengan ayakan 225 mesh adalah untuk mend
apatkan ukuran zeolit yang homogen. Struktur dari lubang ayakan menyebabkan
zeolit yang lolos tersebut mempunyai ukuran sama. Penggunaan ayakan 225 mes
h dimaksudkan agar zeolit dapat memenuhi kondisi yang diperlukan untuk proses
milling menggunakan high energy milling.

Cara Kerja
c. Karakterisasi Zeolit Alam
Karakterisasi pada zeolite lolos ayakan 225 mesh (a), zeolite hasil milling (b), d
an zeolite hasil milling teraktivasi (c) menggunakan SEM dan BET untuk diketahui morfolo
gi permukaan, luas permukaan, ukuran pori dan volume pori total.
 PEMBAHASAN

2. Aktivasi zeolit
Zeolit alam hasil milling sebanyak 12 gram direndam dalam larutan H
F 1% selama 30 menit untuk melarutkan oksida silika bebas berupa SiO2 amorf
dan oksida pengotor. Konsentrasi HF yang ditambahkan tidak boleh terlalu tinggi
, agar sifat kristal zeolit tetap dipertahankan. Sehingga pada penelitian mengguna
kan konsentrasi HF 1%. HF ditambahkan terlebih dahulu karena HF merupakan a
sam yang lebih reaktif terhadap SiO2 amorf di antara asam halida lainnya, sehing
ga diharapkan pengotor seperti SiO2 amorf yang berada di sekitar kristal zeolit da
pat terikat oleh HF.
Reaksinya:
SiO2 (s) + 4HF (l) SiF4 (l) + 2H2O (aq)

3. Penggilingan Menggunakan HEM-E3D

Penggilingan (milling) merupakan sintesis nanopartikel secara top-down.
Rasio masa bola terhadap serbuk (ball to powder ratio) yang digunak
an pada penelitian ini adalah 8:1. Penggunaan rasio 8:1 disesuaikan dengan kapas
itas jar HEM-E3D yang bervolume 100 ml. Rasio ini cocok untuk kondisi pengis
ian serbuk dan bola penghancur ke dalam jar yang tidak boleh melebihi 2/3 volu
me jar. Hal ini bertujuan untuk menyediakan ruang yang cukup bagi bola pengha
ncur dan serbuk zeolit dapat bergerak bebas dalam jar sehingga penggilingan ber
jalan efektif. Bila menggunakan rasio yang lebih kecil dapat memperlambat bent
uran antara bola dan serbuk, sedangkan rasio yang terlalu besar akan mempersem
pit gerak bola dan serbuk di dalam jar. Satu bola giling memiliki berat 3,52 gram.
Pada penelitian ini menggunakan 11 bola penghancur sehingga setiap kali melak
ukan penggilingan memerlukan zeolit sebanyak 4,84 gram.

5. Uji Adsorpsi
Penyerapan ion Fe3+ dilakukan dengan variasi waktu yang bertujuan u
ntuk mengetahui waktu optimum zeolit dalam adsorpsi. Larutan yang digunakan
adalah FeCl3 dengan konsentrasi 170 ppm. Pengaruh waktu adsorpsi dapat dilihat
dari nilai adsorbat yang teradsorpsi.
 KESIMPULAN

1. Metode top-down dengan alat high energy milling sangat efektif untuk
pembuatan nanozeolit
2. Pembuatan nanozeolit dapat dilakukan dengan alat high energy millin
g pada kecepatan rotasi 1000 rpm selama 6 jam dengan morfologinya
75-100 nm
3. Penyerapan ion Fe3+ terbaik pada nanozeolit hasil milling dengan ion
Fe3+ yang teradsorpsi sebesar 168,65 ppm dengan waktu optimum

1. Senyawa NH4Cl harus dipastikan sudah tidak ada sehingga tidak men
utupi pori-pori zeolit
