Faktor Kedatangan Kuasa Barat Ke Negara Kita
 Syarikat Hindia Timur Inggeris (SHTI) pada tahun 1600 ditubuhkan di England
 Syarikat ini diberi hak monopoli dalam perdagangan rempah di Kepulauan Melayu oleh Kerajaan British
 Pada 1602, Syarikat Hindia Timur Belanda ditubuhkan, syarikat ini diberi monopoli pedagangan di Timur
 Pada tahun 1664, Perancis menubuhkan Syarikat Hindia Timur Perancis untuk berdagang di Asia
 Kestabilan dan kemakmuran negara menyebabkan kuasa-kuasa Barat berminat untuk memiliki kekayaan
tersebut
 Orang Sepanyol menjadi saingan utama sebagai kuasa penjajah pada abad ke-16 dan menjadi kuasa ulung di
Eropah kerana memiliki kekayaan hasil daripada beberapa buah koloninya
 Abad ke 16 ialah zaman kegemilangan Portugis dan Sepanyol
 Abad ke 17 kebangkitan kuasa-kuasa Barat sebagai kuasa penjajah untuk merebut kekayaan dan tanah
jajahan di seberang laut
 Alam Melayu menjadi sasaran utama kedatangan orang Eropah demi mencari sumber rempah-ratus dan
menguasainya
 i) Barangan mewah
– Kuasa Barat pada ketika itu berminat untuk
mendapatkan bahan seperti rempah-ratus, minyak
wangi,emas,perak dan hasil hutan
– Orang Eropah mendapatkan barangan mewah
dari China

ii) Pusat pengumpulan barang

– Sebagai tukaran, negara China mahukan emas,
perak, bijih timah dan lain-lain, barang-barang ini
Kedatangan kuasa boleh diperoleh di Kepulauan Melayu
– Syarikat perdagangan tersebut memerlukan
barat pada abad ke- pusat pengumpulan bahan mentah tempatan.

iii) Pelabuhan persinggahan

– Kuasa Barat memerlukan pelabuhan yang
sesuai sebagai tempat berlimdung sementara
menunggu peralihan angin monsun.
– untuk memudahkan mereka kapal berlabuh,
mengisi bekalan air, makanan dan kemudahan
membaiki kapal

iv) Agama Kristian

– Matlamat penjajahan mereka adalah untuk
kekayaan, keagamaan dan kemasyhuran
 Revolusi perindustrian
– Revolusi perindustrian berlaku di Britain
pada abad ke 17 manakala negara
Eropah lain abad ke 18
– Selepas berlakunya revolusi
perindustrian, dasar kuasa Barat berubah
Kedatangan kuasa corak, mereka perlu mencari pusat
barat pada abad ke- perdagangan dan menguasai tanah
jajahan yang dapat membekalkan bahan-

perusahaan mereka secara berterusan
– perindustrian ini membolehkan
barangan dikeluarkan secara besar-
besaran, oleh itu kawasan pasaran yang
lebih luas perlu dicari untuk memasarkan
barang tersebut supaya keuntungan dapat
dimaksimumkan.

19 dan 20
i) Perkembangan industri kereta
– menambahkan permintaan untuk hasil getah
– hasil getah merupakan bahan penting dalam perusahaan penebat barangan elektrik

ii) Kesuburan tanah dan kekayaan hasil bumi

– Negara kita mempunyai tanah yang luas, subur dan iklim yang sesuai untuk tanaman.
– Negara kita juga kaya dengan hasil bumi seperti bijih timah, bijih besi, emas, petroleum dan arang batu

iii) Industri mengetin

– Pada abad 19 Amerika Syarikat memerlukan penggunaan bijih timah untuk industri mengetin makanan,
mengetin minuman, membuat bumbung rumah dan tong minyak
– disebabkan itu harga bijih timah melambung tinggi
– selepas tahun 1840, permintaan bijih timah bertambah dengan pesat

iv) Pembukaan Terusan Suez

– menghubungkan Pelabuhan Said di Laut Mediterranean dan Suez di Laut Merah telah mempercepat urusan
perdagangan
– perdagangan di antara Alam Melayu dan benua Eropah semakin betambah
v) Ciptaan Kapal Wap
– Abad 19 kapal wap dicipta
– kapal wap penting untuk membawa muatan yang banyak, perjalanannya lebih cepat dan jimat kos
– penghantaran barang dagangan menjadi semakin mudah dan murah

vi) Persaingan Kuasa Barat

– wujud semangat persaingan kuasa-kuasa Barat dalam kegiatan menakluki kawasan atau wilayan di luar
Eropah
– mereka sanggup berperang demi mendapatkan tanah jajahan
– kuasa Barat menganggap semaki luas tanah jajahan, semaki tinggi sanjungan yang diperoleh

vii) Ciptaan Telegraf

– membolehkan ahli perniagaan di benua Eropah dan Amerika menghubungi ejek atau wakil mereka di Tanah
Melayu dengan cepat
– penglibatan Tanah Melayu dalam kegiatan pasaran dunia Antarabangsa semakin penting.

viii) Slogan “Beban Orang Putih”

– Kuasa Barat berhasrat untuk menyebarkan pengaruh dan tamadun mereka ke seberang laut
– hujahan mereka tentang peradaban mereka lebih penting berbanding dengan kebudayaan penduduk yang
dijajah bagi merasionalkan penjajahan mereka
– mereka menggunakan slogan “Beban Orang Putih” yang bermaksud tanggungjawab mereka dan tugas
mereka adalah untuk membantu dan memberikan kesejahteraan kepada peribumi di wilayah yang dijajah oleh
mereka
