1. Untuk memberi informasi pada pembaca tentang sumber tabel, statistik, diagram, foto,
dan ilustrasi lainnya.
2. Saat menjelaskan teori, model, atau praktik yang terkait dengan penulis tertentu
3. Untuk memberikan kredibilitas pada argumen penulis
4. Memberikan penekanan pada teori atau model tertentu
5. Untuk memberi tahu pembaca tentang sumber kutipan
6. Ketika memparafrasekan karya orang lain.
When you do not need to reference

1. Saat menyajikan ikhtisar historis

2. Saat mempresentasikan pengalaman Anda sendiri
