The key / spanner / wrench is a tool made of steel that is hardened and coated with chrome (Cr)
or nickel (Ni) to prevent wear where the key function is used to rotate (tighten and release)
bolts / nuts.

In automotive workshops or bench workshops known there are two types of work tools, namely
hand tools and machine tools or power tools (hand tools and machine tools or Power tools) 1) the
two tools are distinguished by the driving force where the machine tools to move it using power
help from the machine, for example, grinding machines to be able to spin the rock must be
rotated by an electric motor, while the hand tools use muscle power / human hands. In other
words a hand tool is a work aid that uses it always using human hand power. The equipment that
will be discussed below is included in the category of hand tools (Hand Tools).

The work of installing and removing bolts / nuts, couplers, snapring is a job that almost always
exists in every unit of competency in automotive vehicle repairs. Equipment for installing /
removing bolts (bolt) and nuts (hexagonal) is called hexagonal (wrench) called a wrench /
hexagon combination (Hexagonal Wrench) and for a rectangular bolt head called Wrench
Square. While the equipment for opening screws (screw) is a screwdriver (Screw driver). The
keys are made in various forms for the purpose of using various conditions, the position and
dimensions of bolts / nuts.
 Kunci Pas

Kunci / spanner / wrench adalah alat yang terbuat dari baja yang dikeraskan dan dilapisi khrom
(Cr) atau nikel (Ni) agar tidak mudah aus di mana fungsi kunci ini digunakan untuk memutar
(mengencangkan dan melepas) baut / mur.

Dalam bengkel otomotif ataupun bengkel kerja bangku dikenal ada dua jenis alat bantu kerja
yaitu alat tangan dan alat mesin atau alat tenaga (hand tools and machine tools or Power tools)1)
kedua alat tersebut dibedakan atas tenaga penggeraknya di mana alat mesin untuk
menggerakkannya menggunakan tenaga bantu dari mesin, misalnya mesin gerinda untuk dapat
berputar batu gerindanya harus di putarkan oleh motor listrik, sedangkan alat tangan
menggunakan tenaga otot/tangan manusia. Dengan kata lain alat tangan adalah alat bantu kerja
yang penggunaannya selalu menggunakan tenaga tangan manusia. Peralatan yang akan di bahas
berikut ini termasuk dalam kategori alat-alat tangan (Hand Tools).

Pekerjaan memasang dan melepas baut /mur, skrup, snapring adalah pekerjaan yang hampir
selalu ada disetiap unit kompetensi perbaikan kendaraan otomotif. Peralatan untuk memasang/
melepas baut (bolt) dan mur (nut) berdimensi segi enam (Hexagonal) disebut kunci pas/ ring/
kombinasi segi enam (Wrench Hexagonal) dan untuk kepala baut segi empat disebut Wrench
Square. Sedangkan peralatan untuk membuka skrup (screw) adalah obeng (Screw driver). Kunci
dibuat dengan berbagai bentuk untuk tujuan pemakaian pada berbagai kondisi, posisi dan
dimensi baut/mur.
