Pompa Dan Kompresor Bagian Ii: Kompresor: Bahan Ajar
OL E H :
1.1. Definisi
2
Gambar 1.1 Ilustrasi definisi kompresor
3
a. Kompresor Torak (Reciprocating Compressor)
type.
2) Rotodynamic/Centrifugal/Turbo/Dynamic Compressor
menjadi energi fluida berupa kenaikan total head fluida kerjanya. Lebih jauh berdasarkan
konstruksinya kompresor ini dapat digolongkan menjadi:
3) Ejector
4

P1 . V1 = P2 . V 2 = konstan

v = Volume spesifik (m3 /kg)
Massa :m = n x mw
P.v = Z.R.T Z = P.v / (R.T) P.Q = w.Z.R.T
temperatur kritis supaya gas berubah keadaan.
7
SG = mw / 28.96
Accoustic velocity dapat dihitung dengan persamaan :
a = k .R.g .T
Ma = v / a

Reciprocating or Piston compressors are the most common machines available on the market. They are
positive displacement compressors and can be found in ranges from fractional to very high
horsepowers. Positive displacement air compressors work by filling an air chamber with air and then
reducing the chamber’s volume (Reciprocating, Rotary Screw and Rotary Sliding Vane are all positive
displacement compressors). Reciprocating compressors work in a very similar manner as does as
internal combustion engine but basically in a reverse process. They have cylinders, pistons, crankshafts,
valves and housing blocks.

BAB V
KOMPRESOR ROTARY
There are several types of rotary compressor, the most common being “Rotary vane compressors”
and “Roots blowers”; both tend to be used for low pressure-ratio applications, and run at relatively high
speeds.
32
efficient at full load, Extended service intervals, Reliable long life, Improved air quality
Rotary Screw Compressors work on the principle of air filling the void between two helical mated
screws and their housing. As the two helical screws are turned, the volume is reduced resulting in an
increase of air pressure. Most rotary screw compressors inject oil into the bearing and compression
area. The reasons are for cooling, lubrication and creating a seal between screws and the housing wall to
reduce internal leakage. After the compression cycle, the oil and air must be separated before the air
can be used by the air system.
Rotary vane compressors usually compress the gas in two stages, firstly by reducing the volume of
the chamber containing the gas (i.e. volume a is greater than volume c in the diagram below). Further
33
compression takes place when the outlet port is exposed and some of the previously compressed gas in
the outlet pipe flows back into the chamber, compressing the charge (irreversibly) up to the outlet
pressure (process d-e). Lastly, the compressed gas (including the back-flow quantity) is pushed out of
the space at constant pressure into the outlet pipe. Both parts of the compression are rapid and are
effectively adiabatic, but neither is reversible because of significant frictional effects, even during the
volume reduction stage. Thus the gas outlet temperature is even higher than would be expected from a
reversible adiabatic (isentropic) compression (i.e. n > γ ).
Roots Blowers
Roots blowers use a mechanism with clearances between lobes and synchronised with gears, which
transfers fluid with zero reduction in volume, (i.e. they could pump a liquid) so all compression of gas is
done by back–flow from the outlet pipe (like the second part of compression in a rotary vane
compressor). The pV diagram thus has no curved portion at all, and cycle power requirements are
greater.
34
Compression Work
The work done by a rotary compressor can be found in one of two ways, a detailed examination of
processes inside the machine, or a general energy balance.
Analysis of internal processes If we have details of its internal geometry, we can analyse the pV diagram
to calculate the work done in compression.
Constant pressure “pumping” e-f (after the irreversible back-flow process d-e with no change in system
volume):
35
Constant pressure induction f-a:
If we take va to be 1 m3 , we can calculate the compression work per cubic meter FAD.
Since heat losses and changes in kinetic and potential energy are negligible, the equation reduces to:
36
Gambar
Real rotary machines have frictional effects from gas turbulence, shock due to rapid changes in
flow direction, and mechanical contact between moving parts and walls. The gas temperature rise is
therefore even greater than would be expected from a reversible adiabatic process. Because of this
limitation, we arbitrarily choose to compare rotary compressor power with that for a reversible
adiabatic (isentropic) process, and refer to its. Isentropic Efficiency (rather than Isothermal Efficiency as
was used with reciprocating compressors). Note, this is despite the fact that the best process is still
isothermal.
Deriving the isentropic efficiency for a rotary compressor is straight forward. Consistent with the
“general” definition, it is defined as:
Gambar
37
Showing the irreversible adiabatic compression process on a T-S diagram, we se that it will inevitably
(from the Second Law) produce an increase in entropy (and the final gas temperature will be higher than
the reversible equivalent). Thus:
At high compression ratios, rotary compressors would be very inefficient. So they tend to be used
at relatively low pressure ratios, where their good mechanical efficiency tends to offset their
compression process which is poor compared to that of reciprocating machines.
Reciprocating and rotary compressors therefore have similar overall efficiency when used in their
appropriate operating ranges.

Problem:
A rotary vane compressor 90 m3 of air per minute at 100 kPa, 25°C and compresses it to 270 kPa.
During the internal compression before back-flow, the volume is reduced by 35% at an isentropic
efficiency of 85%. Drawing a pV diagram for the machine and, assuming for convenience that the
induced volume is 1 m3 , calculate the:
42
(vi) indicated power of the compressor;
(vii) shaft power to drive the compressor if its mechanical efficiency is 90%;
(ix) shaft power to drive a Roots blower with the same flow rate, pressures, and mechanical
efficiency;
(x) overall isentropic efficiency of the Roots blower (including mechanical losses).

KOMPRESOR SENTRIFUGAL/RADIAL
Compressors are not positive displacement compressors like the Reciprocating, Screw or Vane
Compressors. They use very high speed spinning impellers (up to 60,000 rpm) to accelerate the air then
diffuser to decelerate the air. This process, called dynamic compression, uses velocity to cause an
increase in pressure. In most Centrifugal compressors, there are several of these impeller/diffuser
combinations. Typically, these machines have intercoolers between each stage to cool the air as well as
remove 100% of the condensate to avoid impeller damage due to erosion.

ψ = 1 - φ (tan α 1 + tan β 2 )

c x dikurangi, U = konstan.
