HORTATORY EXPOSITION TEXT

A.  Definition of Hortatory Exposition.

Hortatory Exposition is a type of English text that belongs to the class of

Argumentation.
Hortatory Exposition is a type of English text that influences the reader to do
something or act in a certain way.

In Hortatory Exposition, there are some opinions about certain things to

reinforce the main ideas of the text.
Hortatory Exposition adalah jenis teks bahasa Inggris yang tergolong ke
dalam kelas Argumentation. Hortatory Exposition adalah sebuah jenis teks bahasa
Inggris memengaruhi pembaca untuk melakukan sesuatu atau bertindak dalam hal
tertentu.
Dalam Hortatory Exposition, ada beberapa pendapat mengenai hal tertentu
untuk memperkuat ide pokok  dari teks tersebut.
Teks Hortatory eksposisi ditemukan dalam buku-buku ilmiah, jurnal,
majalah, artikel koran, pidato akademis atau kuliah, laporan penelitian.

B.   The Purpose of Hortatory Exposition

The Purpose Hortatory exposition is to presenting and influencing the

readers that should be so, and should not be.

Tujuan dari Hortatory exposition adalah untuk memaparkan dan

mempengaruhi pembaca bahwa seharusnya demikian dan tidak seharusnya
demikian.
C.   Generic Structure of Hortatory Exposition
1.  Thesis

The contain of thesis is introduction to the main idea of a effect or event

that will be raised or discussed.

Thesis berisi tentang pengenalan ide pokok penulis tentang suatu gejala atau
kejadian yang akan diangkat atau dibahas. Disini penulis memperkenalkan masalah
atau tema yang akan dibahas.
Thesis ada diparagraf pertama dari teks.

2. Arguments

The contain of argument is the opinions of the writer that support the main
idea. The more opinions the authors write, the more attractive a Hortatory
Exposition Text, because readers tend to believe in an event if there are many
opinions that support in it.

Arguments berisi tentang pendapat-pendapat yang mendukung ide pokok penulis.

Semakin banyak pendapat yang penulis tuliskan, semakin menarik sebuah
Hortatory Exposition Text itu, karena pembaca cenderung percaya terhadap suatu
peristiwa jika terdapat banyak pendapat yang mendukung di dalamnya.
Arguments dimulai dari paragraf kedua dari teks. Dalam satu teks mungkin lebih
dari 1 paragraf.

3. Recommendation

Recommendation contains a recommendation or solicitation writer to the reader.

Rekomendation berisi tentang rekomendasi atau ajakan penulis terhadap pembaca.
Rekomendasi ada diparagraf terakhir dari teks.

D.  Language Structure of Hortatory Exposition

 The use Simple present tense 
   ( is, am, are, and Verb 1 )
 The use temporal connectives
Ex: firstly, secondly, thirdly, etc
 The use evaluative words
Ex : importantly, valuably, trustworthly, etc
Penting , berharga, percaya.
 The use materials processes.
 The use relational process
 The use modals
Ex : should, ought to, could,can, shall
 The use mental processes
 The use of expressions of giving opinion
Ex : In my opinion, I think...should...

Contoh Hortatory Exposition

Students Should Breakfast Everyday

Thesis : A lot of people especially young people go through the day without
having breakfast. Many people believe that it is not important, or usually they did
not have time for breakfast, and begin their day without breakfast. I think all of
people should breakfast before going the activity. This is the reason the importance
of breakfast, especially for students.

Argument 1 : The first reason why you should breakfast before going to school is
for your health. When you did not breakfast , I believe you will be tired. Because
breakfast is important for build our spirit. It is not good if our stomach an empty all
day long. All of you are going to get magh and a lot of problems with your health.
Argument 2 : the second reason is because you need food for to do well in the
class. Your body and your brain are not going to function if you are not going to
breakfast. You did not have strength and energy to pervade the material.

Argument 3 : The last reason to have breakfast every day because you can avoid
diseases. You have to breakfast in the morning. If you do not eat you are going to
sick.
Recommendation : You have to realize if breakfast is the most important of the
day, and you can not leave it. It is better if you have a good breakfast everyday,
this is the better way to start your activity. Go to school with the spirit.
Terjemahan:
Pelajar Harus Sarapan Pagi Setiap Hari

Thesis: Semua orang khususnya anak muda pergi melakukan aktifitas harinya
tanpa sarapan. Orang-orang percaya bahwa ini tidak terlalu penting, atau biasanya
mereka tidak memiliki waktu untuk sarapan, dan memulai harinya tanpa sarapan.
Saya pikir semua orang harus sarapan sebelum melakukan aktifitasnya. Alasan
alasan pentingnya sarapan, khusunya untuk pelajar.

Pendapat 1 : Alasan pertama mengapa kamu harus sarapan sebelum pergi ke

sekolah adalah untuk kesehatan. Ketika kamu tidak sarapan, saya percaya kamu
akan menjadi lelah. Karena sarapan itu penting untuk menumbuhkan semangat
kita. Ini tidak baik untuk perut jika tidak terisi seharian. Kamu akan sakit magh dan
masalah- masalah lainnya jika kamu tidak menjaga kesehatan.
Pendapat 2 : Alasan kedua mengapa kamu harus sarapan adalah karena kamu
butuh melakukan yang terbaik di kelas. Tubuh dan otak mu tidak akan berfugsi
jika kamu tidak melakukan sarapan. Kamu tidak mempunyai energi untuk
menyerap materi - materi yang diberikan. 
Pendapat 3 : alasan terakhir adalah mengapa kamu harus sarapan setiap hari
karena itu adalah cara untuk menghindari penyakit. Kamu harus sarapan di pagi
hari. Jika kamutidak melakukannya kamu akan mendapatkan penyakit. 
Saran : kamu harus menyadari betapa pentingnya sarapan itu, dan kamu tidak bisa
mengabaikannya. Ini akan lebih baik jika kamu sarapan setiap hari. Ini adalah cara
terbaik untuk memulai aktifitas sehari - hari. Pergi ke sekolah dengan penuh
semangat.

Activity 1

Why exercise is important?

The majority of us claim that we do not have time for exercise. We feel to
busy to do that. However, many experts said that exercise has great role in making
our body healthy.

Being physically active offers many advantages in physical reward, exercise

can reduce weight then our body will become fitter. Exercise is also believed to
reduce stress levels, improve sleep patterns and reduce the risk of heart disease,
diabetes, and some forms of cancer. Beside physical advantage, exercises also
brings good effect mentally. Due to the fitter body, exercises can make us feel
refreshed and happy then we can increase our life quality and expectancy.

How can we do exercise while we are busy?such question is commonly

found among us. Actually exercise can be done in simple ways. We can go
walking while while shopping. In the office we can take stairs rather than lift to
run up and down. Or we can go cycling while enjoy the leisure time.

After all, doing exercise is little bit difficult in busy life, but the little bit of
exercise will help us feel better.
