Conditional Sentences if with imperative, can, should

Pada dasarnya conditional sentence adalah kalimat majemuk (complex sentence)

yang terdiri dari 2 atau lebih kalimat sederhana. Satu kalimat sederhana itu disebut
Main Clause (induk kalimat), dan satu lagi kalimatnya disebut Sub Clause (anak
kalimat). Karena Sub Clause itu diawali dengan kata IF (jika) maka dengan
sendirinya dikenal dengan nama If Clause. Perhatikan contoh berikut ini!.

I will go to market if I have much money

I will go to market = Main Clause

if I have much money = Sub Clause, If Clause

Berdasarkan perbedaan tenses yang digunakan pada pasangan Main Clause dan If
Clause, conditional sentences dibedakan menjadi 3 type

Type 1: If I have much money, I will go to market = Planning

Type 2: If I had much money, I would go to market = Contradicting

Type 3: If I had had much money, I would have gone to market = Regretting

PENGGUNAAN IF CLAUSE + MAIN CLAUSE WITH IMPERATIVE

SENTENCE
Kita menggunakan If Clause berpasangan dengan Main Clause kalimat imperative
jika dimaksudkan untuk membuat instruksi, perintah, atau saran yang keras (to give
instructions of advice.). Perhatikan contoh ini:

If you see John, tell him he needs to come to my office.

If you travel abroad, remember your passport
If you go to Australia, send me a postcard.
If you go to the supermarket, bring back some milk.
If Mike comes, call me.
If you drink, don’t drive.
If you visit Seattle, Visit Chihuly Garden and Glass.
If you visit Seattle, Watch the aircraft being built at the Boeing factory.
If you visit Seattle, Tour The Chocolate factory in Fremont.

PENGGUNAAN IF CLAUSE + MAIN CLAUSE WITH MODAL CAN

Modal CAN juga bisa digunakan pada kalimat Main Clause untuk memberikan arti
yang permission. Sebagaimana arti dasar dari modal CAN tersebut yang bermakna
bisa atau boleh. Selain modal CAN, penekanan makna permission juga bisa
menggunakan modal MAY yang pada dasarnya mempunyai arti boleh. Perhatikan
contoh berikut!

If you have license, you can drive my car

If you pass the examination, you can go camping
If the weather is bright, you can go picnic
If the condition is supporting, you can make your own plan
If your friends come here, you can play with them
If you have finished your homework, you can watch TV
Can you tell her to see me if she calls you?
Can you call me if you see Susan?

PENGGUNAAN IF CLAUSE + MAIN CLAUSE WITH MODAL SHOULD

Selain modal CAN dan MAY, kalimat Main Clause juga bisa menggunakan modal
SHOULD. Ketika modal SHOULD ini digunakan pada Main Clause untuk konstruksi
Conditional Sentence ini menunjukkan sebuah saran atau nasihat (advise). Selain
kata SHOULD yang berarti saran nasihat ini, Main Clause juga bisa menggunakan
modal HAD BETTER dan OUGHT TO.Perhatikan contoh berikut ini!

If the teachers have time, they should repeat the subjects

If he calls you, you should go
If you want to work hard, you should arrange your time.
If you listen to me, you should do what I talk to you.
If you lend him some money, you should remind him to return back.
If she doesn’t leave the house, she should read a lot of news.
If you don’t go to school, you should borrow your friend’s note.
If you do not win a scholarship, you should study harder.
If you have enough strawberries, I should give some to other
If it doesn’t rain, you ought to wash your carpet.
If you go out, you ought to go home before eleven

Arti Conditional Sentence with Should

Jika para guru punya waktu, mereka harus mengulangi pelajarannya

Jika dia memanggilmu, kamu harus pergi
Jika Anda ingin bekerja keras, Anda harus mengatur waktu Anda.
Jika Anda mendengarkan saya, Anda harus melakukan apa yang saya bicarakan
dengan Anda.
Jika Anda meminjamkan uang kepadanya, Anda harus mengingatkan untuk kembali.
Jika dia tidak meninggalkan rumah, dia harus membaca banyak berita.
Jika Anda tidak pergi ke sekolah, Anda harus meminjam catatan teman Anda.
Jika Anda tidak memenangkan beasiswa, Anda harus belajar lebih giat.

If Clause Type II

If + Subject + Verb 2, Subject + Would/ Could + Verb 1

If + Subject + didn’t + Verb 1 , Subject + would/could + Verb1
If + Subject + were , Would/Could + Not + Verb1

Examples :
1. If you were sick, you would take a rest.
2. If She got the first prize, she would give it to her mother.
3. If They didn’t agree with the concept, they would not join it.
4. If Ryan had much money , he could buy a laptop .
5. If Robert and Frank didn’t come, I would not tell you.

If Clause Type III

If + Subject + had +Verb 3, Subject + Would/ Could + Have + Verb 3
If + Subject + hadn’t + Verb 3 , Subject + would/could + Have + Verb3
If + Subject + had been Would/Could + Not + Have +Verb3
