agar menjadi satu kalimat utuh yang baik dan benar.

Dalam sebuah kalimat baik Bahasa Indonesia maupun dalam Bahasa Inggris, bisa memiliki kata sambung
lebih dari satu.

Biasanya kata sambung ini harus sederajat atau sejajar sehingga kalimat bisa berdiri dengan struktur
gramatikal yang benar.

Definisi Correlative Conjunction

Merupakan kata hubung atau kata sambung yang digunakan berpasangan untuk menunjukkan
hubungan antara dua kata, frasa, atau klausa.

Elemen kalimat yang dihubungkan biasanya bersifat paralel (kedudukannya sejajar) secara struktur
gramatikal. Kata hubung ini disebut juga paired conjunction.

Dalam menggunakan dua kata hubung dalam satu kalimat, pastikan verb (kata kerja) yang digunakan
masuk akal dan nyambung jika diaplikasikan ke dalam kalimat. Contoh: Every night, either loud music or
fighting neighbors wake John from his sleep.

Selain verb, ada juga pronoun yang perlu diperhatikan. Pastikan kembali apakah pronoun yang
digunakan memiliki korelasi yang tepat dalam kata hubung. Contoh: Neither Debra nor Sally expressed
her annoyance when the cat broke the antique lamp.

Strukur kalimat merupakan salah satu hal yang penting dalam penggunaan correlative conjunction.
Pastikan struktur gramatikalnya benar. Contoh: Not onlydid Mary grill burgers for Michael, butshe
alsofixed a steak for her dog, Vinny.

Between/and (There is no difference between you and him.)

Both/and (We’ll have both the cheesecake and the chocolate cake.)

Either/ or (I want either the cheesecake or the chocolate cake.)

Neither/nor (Oh, you want neither the cheesecake nor the chocolate cake? No problem.)
From/ to (I traveled from England to Rome in three days.)

Hardly/when (Hardly had you left the restaurant when the party was started.)

No sooner/ than (I’d no sooner lie to you than strangle a puppy.)

Scarcely/ when (I had scarcely walked through the door when I got an urgent call and had to run right
back out again.)

If/then (If you help him now, then he’ll repay you one day.)

Not/but (I see you’re in the mood not for desserts but appetizers.)

Not only/but also (I’ll eat them both – not only the cheesecake but also the chocolate cake.)

Rather/than (My parents would rather have lunch at a traditional restaurant than at a fast-food
restaurant.)

The more/the less (The more we study grammar, the less we face difficulties when writing.)

The more/the more (The more you give alms to others, the more you get rewards from God.)

Whether/or (I didn’t know whether you’d want the cheesecake or the chocolate cake, so I got both)

As/as (Bowling isn’t as fun as skeet shooting.)

Such/that (Such was the nature of their volatile relationship that they never would have made it even if
they’d wanted to)
