Pengertian Countable Noun

Countable Noun adalah kata benda yang dapat dihitung dengan mudah. Contoh: book (buku). Kita bisa mengatakan 1
buku, 2 buku, dan sebagainya. Berikut ini adalah beberapa contoh countable noun:
Dog, cat, animak, man, person
Bottle, box, liter
Coin, note, dollar
Cup, plate, fork
Table, chair, suitcase, bag

Countable noun terbadi menjadi dua macam, yaitu: singular countable (dapat dihitung tunggal) dan plural
countable (dapat dihitung jamak). Pada bentuk Plural, perubahan bentuk kata bendanya mengikuti aturan regular (pola
beraturan) atau irregular (pola tidak beraturan).

Regular Countable Noun

fe maka akhiran -f atau -fe dihilangkan lalu ditambahkan akhiran -ves.
Kata benda lainnya ditambahkan akhiran -s. book books

Singular countable noun harus menggunakan indefinite article (a/an), sedangkan plural-

Baik singular, maupun plural, dapat menggunakan definite article (the).

Hanya plural countable noun yang menggunakan takaran.

Singular countable noun menggunakan demostratives “this” atau “that” sedangkan plural
countable noun dengan “these” atau “those” diikuti dengan bentuk plural kata bendanya.

Pengertian Uncountable Noun

Uncountable noun adalah kata benda yang tidak bisa dihitung dengan sendirinya, harus dengan alat bantu seperti liter,
bottle, dan sebagainya. Kita tidak tidak dapat membaginya menjadi beberapa bagian. Contoh: kata “milk/susu”. Kita bisa
menghitungnya dengan alat bantu yaitu liter atau botol, contoh: “bottles of milk” or “litres of milk”, Tapi kita tidak bisa
menghitung “milk” sendiri. Berikut contoh uncountable nouns:

Uncountable noun kebanyakan hanya memiliki bentuk singular (tunggal), namun ada beberapa yang hanya memiliki
bentuk plural. Apabila ingin membentuk pengertian plural dari kata benda ini, maka yang dijamakkan adalah takarannya.

Plural Uncountable Noun

Beberapa uncountable memiliki bentuk plural (jamak) tanpa bentuk singular (tunggal) walaupun dengan makna yang
sama. Plural uncountable tersebut tidak dapat ditambahkan number (two pants).

Perbedaan Countable Noun dan Uncountable Noun

■ Countable Noun: kata benda yang memiliki bentuk tunggal (singular) dan jamak (plural) dan dapat dihitung.
Misalnya kata pen dan pens.
1. There is a pen on the table. (singular)
2. There are pens on the table. (plural)

■ Uncountable Noun: kata benda yang hanya memiliki satu bentuk saja, digunakan untuk tunggal dan jamak.
Misalnya kata milk.
1. There is no milk in the fridge.
2. There is a lot of milk in your glass.
