Asking the Time

Asking for the time, ungkapan-ungkapan yang digunakan untuk menanyakan waktu pada
orang lain

 What time is it now? = Pukul berapa sekarang?


 What is the time?
 What time is it right now?
 Do you have the correct time? = Apakah waktunya tidak salah?
 Have you got the time? (informal)
 Can I have the time?
 May I know what time it is? (lebih sopan)
 Excuse me, what time do you have? (Bisa menggunakan ‘excuse me’ sebelum
menanyakan waktu agar percakapan terkesan lebih sopan)
 What time does this store open? = Pukul berapa toko ini buka?
 What time does exactly the movie start? = Pukul berapa tepatnya filmnya dimulai?
 When does the movie start? = Kapan filmnya dimulai?

(‘When’ digunakan untuk mendapatkan jawaban yang lebih umum, sementara ‘What time’
untuk jawaban yang lebih spesifik mengenai pukul tertentu)

 When should we meet then? = Lalu kapan kita harus bertemu?

(dapat mengakhiri pertanyaan dengan membubukankan kata ‘Please’ agar pertanyaan


terkesan lebih sopan)

Responding the question about the time, ungkapan yang digunakan untuk merespon dan
menjawab pertanyaan orang yang bertanya tentang waktu pada kita

 It’s nine o’clock = Sekarang pukul Sembilan tepat


 It’s ten o’clock sharp right now = Sekarang pukul sepuluh tepat
 It’s almost eight = Sekarang hampir pukul depalan
 I think my watch is a few minutes slow = Saya rasa jam saya beberapa menit lebih
lambat
 Of course, It’s a quarter of two = Tentu saja, sekarang pukul dua lewat lima belas
menit
 Yes, It’s a five twenty five = Ya, sekarang pukul lima lewat dua puluh lima menit
 This store usually opens at 10 AM = Biasanya toko ini buka pada pukul 10 AM
 The movie will start soon = Filmnya akan mulai sebentar lagi
 We should meet on Wednesday = Kita harus bertemu pada hari Rabu

Man : Well, it’s almost 2 PM

Evi : I’m sorry, do you have the correct time?

Man : Yes, but I guess my watch is a few minutes faster

Evi : Oh, very well. Thank you, Sir

Man : No problem

Tedi : Ah, I think the day is getting darker. Have you got the time?

Chris : Well… it’s a half past five.

Tedi : Wow, playing with skateboard is so much fun. It’s going to be nightfall

Chris : Yes, I think we should leave from here. Hey, by the way are you hungry?

Tedi : Yes, I am starving. I’d love to eat that delicious burger from Lezat Burger stall. What
time does the stall open?

Chris : It opens from 4 PM. Okay, let’s stop by the stall.

Tedi : Great!

Ryan : Wow, they said Transformer 4 will be on cinema soon. When does exactly the movie
come to the cinema?

Widi : Yes, I saw that from internet. It said that it is going to be on cinema in June.

Ryan : Ah, that’s too bad. It’s still March. It will be a long-wait

Adj. = adjective / kata sifat

v. = verb/ kata kerja

n. = noun / kata benda

advrb. = adverb / keterangan

 Watch = jam tangan n.


 Faster = lebih cepat adj.
 Get darker = mejadi gelap v.
 So much fun = sangat menyenangkan advrb.
 Nightfall = senjakala, waktu matahari terbenam n.
 leave = pergi, beranjak v.
 Starving = sangat lapar adj.
 Stall = toko, kedai, warung n.
 stop by = berhenti untuk berkunjung v.
 Cinema = bioskop n.
 Long-wait = penantian panjang n.
