Kesehatan anak menjadi lebih penting di masa pandemic COVID-19 saat ini.
Tidak hanya pada kesehatan secara umum, namun juga yang lebih bersifat khusus
seperti gigi dan mulut. Karies gigi pada anak merupakan salah satu momok yang
selalu menghantui pertumbuhan dan perkembangan gigi pada seorang anak.
Karies gigi adalah kerusakan jaringan keras gigi yang disebabkan oleh
karbohidrat jenis sukrosa dan glukosa yang dapat diragikan oleh bakteri menjadi
asam. Salah satu faktor penyebab karies adalah saliva. Saliva berperan penting dalam
menjaga integritas gigi. Berkurangnya aliran saliva hingga mencapai 0,7 ml/menit
akan meningkatkan laju pertumbuhan karies.
 Etiologi Karies Gigi

Untuk dapat terjadinya proses karies pada gigi Faktor agent dipengaruhi oleh jumlah bakteri dan plak
diperlukan adanya faktor host yaitu gigi dan dalam rongga mulut. Plak gigi berperan penting dalam
saliva proses terjadinya karies.

Faktor substrat dapat mempengaruhi Karies merupakan suatu penyakit kronis progresif
pembentukan plak karena membantu yang membutuhkan
perkembangbiakan dan kolonisasi waktu beberapa bulan bahkan tahun untuk dapat
mikroorganisme pada permukaan enamel. berkembang.

Faktor utama penyebab karies
adalah:
1. Gigi dan air ludah bentuk gigi yang tidak beraturan dan air
ludah yang banyak mempermudah terjadinya karies
2. Adanya bakteri penyebab karies Bakteri penyebab karies
adalah dari jenis Streptococcus dan lactobacillus.
3. Makanan yang kita konsumsi makanan yang mudah lengket
dan menempel di gigi seperti permen dan coklat,
memudahkan terjadinya karies

Ketika kerusakan sudah semakin meluas, gejala karies yang terjadi meliputi :
• Sakit gigi yang muncul secara tiba – tiba tanpa sebab jelas
• Nyeri ringan hingga parah saat mengonsumsi makanan atau minuman manis.

• Gigi jadi lebih sensitif
• Muncul lubang yang terlihat sangat jelas di gigi
• Ada noda coklat, hitam, atau putih pada permukaan gigi
• Bau mulut
• Rasa tidak enak di mulu
