Selain narrative text, pelajaran recount text ini juga sangat perlu
dipahami agar kemampuan menulis kita lebih baik. Oleh karena itu, mari belajar
memahami kembali recount text lagi... Jika sobat masih bingung cara membuat
recount text, alangkah baiknya sobat baca tulisan ini. Mungkin saja penjelasan
tentang recount text ini bisa membantu mempermudah pemahaman jenis teks
yang "konon" mirip dengan narrative text ini.

Jika dalam narrative text, ada sebuah komplikasi atau masalah yang
muncul dalam sebuah cerita; maka berbeda dengan recount text. Apa sih
bedanya? Oke kita lanjutkan, dalam recount text, yang ada hanya sebuah
peristiwa saja (event); serta urutan-urutan ceritanya tertata rapi. (Note: Mohon
maaf saya bukan guru bahasa Inggris, saya sebenarnya lebih setuju jika recount
text ini dikatakan sebagai nenek moyang narrative text. Meski dalam linguistics saya
belum menemukan 'kata yang pas' untuk jenis teks ini).
Untuk lebih jelas, mari kita pahami keterangan berikut.

Pengertian Recount Text

Recount Text -
Retell yours
Secara harfiah, recount bermakna "menceritakan". Jadi recount text bisa
diartikan sebagai "Text yang menceritakan". Jika mengacu pada keterangan di
buku-buku sekolah (baca : Buku Bahasa Inggris SMP / SMA) recount text
adalah a text that telling the reader about one story, action or activity. Its goal is to entertaining or
informing the reader.(sebuah teks yang menceritakan sebuah cerita, aksi ataupun
aktifitas. Tujuan recount text adalah untuk menghibur atau menginformasikan
pembaca.)

Generic Structure dari Recount Text

Generic structure (susunan umum) recount text ini terdiri dari:
 Orientation tells who was involved, what happened, where the events took place, and when it
happened. ("Orientation" menceritakan siapa saja yang terlibat dalam cerita, apa yang terjadi, di
mana tempat peristiwa terjadi, dan kapan terjadi peristiwanya)
  Events tell what happened and in what sequence. ("Event" menceritakan apa yang terjadi
(lagi) dan menceritakan urutan ceritanya)
 Reorientation consists of optional-closure of events/ending. ("Reorientation" berisi penutup
cerita / akhir cerita)

Contoh Recount Text (1) tentang Masa SMP

My Adolescence

I had my adolescence when I was thirteen.

It started with acne that showed up on my face. It was very annoying. It

lowered my self-esteem and I was embarrassed to come out of my house and
play with friends.
Fortunately, my Mum gave me a good medicine. In three weeks, the
acnes started to vanish although those showed some black spots in my face.

That was my bad experience with adolescence, though there were still lots of
good experience too.
Analisa :
Orientation : Paragraf pertama, (I had my adolescence when I was thirteen)
Events : Paragraf kedua dan ketiga.
Reorientation : Paragraf keempat (terakhir)

Contoh Recount Text (2) tentang Pengalaman

My First Experience to Ride Motorcycle

One day, when I was ten years old, my father bought an old motorcycle.
That was " Honda 75". I think it was small light object and easy to ride it. I
persuaded my father to teach me to ride " Honda 75 ". Firstly, my father refused
my request and promised that he would teach me two or three years later, but I
still whimpered. Finally, my father surrendered and promised to teach me.

He began to teach me riding the motorcycle around a field in my village. My

father was very patient to give me some directions. I was very happy when I
realized my ability to ride a motorcycle. " Yes, I can ".

One day later, when I was alone at home, I intended to try my riding ability. So,
myself tried bravely. All ran fluently in the beginning, but when I was going back
to my home and I passed through a narrow slippery street, I got nervous. I lost
my control and I fell to the ditch.

After that, I told my father about the last accident. I imagined my father would
be angry and never let me ride again. But the reality is exactly on the contrary,
my father was very proud of me. He just gave me some advices and since that
accident, I got my father's permission to ride motorcycle.  

Analisa :
Orientation : Who = I and my father, When = When I was 10 years, What
happen =  my father bought motorcycle and my father promised to teach me
riding.

Events : My father taught me riding motorcyle --> I could ride, finally --> One
day later, I tried riding motorcycle alone --> I fell to the ditch.

It was takbiran night. It was also my birthday, and nothing happened. Or I had thought nothing would
happen, but I was wrong.
 
That night, I was watching television with my family when I heard someone lit fireworks in my front yard.
I peeped through my window glass but could see nothing. It was very dark outside. Then I thought it had to be my
cousins who lit the fireworks. Then I plopped down on my sofa again and tried to concentrate on the television
since my mind raced with disappointment that no one gave something special on my birthday. 

I shrugged, it was almost the end of the day and I became pessimist. Five minutes later my mobile beeped. It was a
text from my friend asking me to come out. Wondering what was going on, I grabbed my jacket and hurried to the
front door. I was surprised to see her bring a bag full of firework and fire drills. Next I was surprised to see my
other friend come out from the darkness. Shebrought a beautiful birthday cake on her hands. Oh my God!
I shrieked. Then they gave the cake to me who was too stunned to say anything. I realized I was blushing furiously
because my whole family was watching. Not to mention my neighbors too!
 
A plain day, or I thought it was before, turned out to be one of the greatest moment in my life. I didn’t
even know how to describe what I felt. Happy was the simplest word.

I’m sure all of students who is still studying in junior high school or senior high
school requires an interesting and easy explanation to understand the material of
Recount Text. Just relax guys .. in this time I’m trying to present it for all you.
Please read this article by praying first, we hope what we learn can make us able
to master English, amien …
Maybe a lot of friends is still confused what is the difference between Recount
Text with Narrative Text. Indeed both are types of Narration text which is a type
of text that tells the story in the past. If we learn narrative text, we will find a
complication or problem that appears in a story; this is different from recount text.
Do you know what is the difference? Okay I will continue, in recount text, there is
only event; and the order of the story is neat. (Note: I’m sorry I’m just new English
teacher, I agree that this text is called the ancestor of the narrative text, although
in linguistics I have not found a ‘right word’ for this type of text).

For more details, let us understand the following description.

Definition of Recount Text

Literally, recount means “to tell.” So recount text can be interpreted as “Text that
tells”. If referring to the information in school books (Read: Junior High School /
Senior High School). Recount text is a text that tells the reader about one story,
action or activity. Its goal is to entertaining or informing the reader. But Inside
Recount Text there is no complication just like in Narrative Text.
Generic Structure of Recount Text
# Orientation : tells who was involved, what happened, where the events took
place, and when it happened.
# Events : tell what happened in chronological sequence.
# Re-orientation : consists of optional-closure of events/ending.
Purpose of Recount Text
The purpose of a recount is to list and describe past experiences by retelling
events in the order in which they happened. Recounts are written to retell events
with the purpose of either informing or entertaining their audience (or both)

In a simple word the purpose of recount text is To retell past experience

Language Feature of Recount Text

– Using the simple past tense, past continuous tense, past perfect tense, and
past perfect continuous tense.
– Using temporal sequence, e.g. On Saturday. On Monday, On Sunday
– Focus on specific participant, e.g. I (the writer)
– Using the conjunctions, such as: then, before, after, etc.
– Using action verb, e.g. went, stayed

Example of Recount Text

My Vacation with My Beloved People
One day, my sister named Putri said to me that she really wanted to go to the
beach. So I promised her that the next week we would go to Mutun beach in
Lampung.

The next week, we prepared everything needed in the morning. We brought

some foods and beverages, such as chocolate wafers, potato chips, water and
orange juice. Before going to the beach, I ask our brother, Bayu, to join us. He
agreed to join and we went there together with our parents. We went there by
car. It took 3 hours to arrive there. Then, we bought tickets in the entrance gate.
Before swimming, we changed our clothes first. We swam there for more than
one hour. We felt so tired that we decided to eat the foods that we had brought.
Next, three of us created a very big sand castle, while my parents were enjoying
the beautiful scenery there. After that, we decided to go home because it was
getting dark.

On the way home, we still felt hungry. So we stopped at a restaurant to have

dinner. I ordered sruit, Lampungnese traditional food, while my brother, my sister,
and my parents ordered fried rice. After finished eating, we paid our bills. Then,
we went home. We arrived at home at 9 o’clock. We were tired but we were
absolutely happy.

My experience met with taufik hidayat

Orientation:
Last sunday, there was Thomas cup badminton championship between Indonesa
and China. It was held on Istora Gelora Bung Karno. I went to Istora Gelora Bung
Karno with my Brother, Andi.
Events:
Before entering Istora Gelora Bung Karno, we looked the bus that took
Indonesian badminton team players. I saw taufik Hidayat, Muhammad Ahsan,
Hendra Setiawan, Hayom Rumbaka, Angga Pratama, Rian Agung, Simon
Santoso, Sony Dwi Kuncoro and the other Indonesian badminton players in that
bus. They were very handsome. Then, we followed that bus to main-entrance. I
found that Taufik Hidayat left from the bus. When we wanted to get close to
Taufik Hidayat, a security guard held me back. But, I thought that security guard
was familiar because He was my old friend when I was senior high school, he
was Andre. After that, he let me in, finally i could meet Taufik Hidayat and got his
signature.
Came Late to school
Last wednesday, I came late to my school because I played playstation untill 2.00
am in the night. Because that I woke up late.
I woke up about 6.30 am and the class would be began at 7.00 am. I ran to
bathroom to take a bath. I usually had a breakfast after took a bath, but in that
day I did not do that.
I always went to school by my moyorcycle. But in that day, I forgot where I put the
key. So, I went to the school by public transportion. It made me took a longer
time. I arrived at school at 7.15 am, I ran to my class but I saw my teacher has
stood in front of the class to teach. I entered to my class and of course my
teacher was angry to me because I came late.
It was my bad experience and I hoped I would not do that again.

12. RECOUNT TEXT

 RECOUNT TEXT

Recount Text is a text that tells about past event or experiences. It used Simple
Past Tense or Past Continues Tense as their grammer.

Language Feature of Recount:

• Introducing personal participant; I, my group, etc

• Using chronological connection; then, first, etc

• Using linking verb; was, were, saw, heard, etc

• Using action verb; looked, went, changed, etc

• Using simple past tense or past continues tense as action verb (verb 2)

The Structure of recount text consist of three parts :

1.     Orientation : tells the readers who was involved in the story,what happened,where the story
took place,and when it happened.
2.    A series of events : tell the sequence of events. These events are described in a chronological
order.
3.    Re-orientation : summarizes the event.
Example :

Text "My Holiday in Bali"

When I was 2nd grade of senior high school, my friends and I went to Bali. We were there
for three days. I had many impressive experiences during the vacation. [ ORIENTATION]

First day, we visited Sanur Beach in the morning. We saw the beautiful sunrise together. It
was a great scenery. Then, we checked in to the hotel. After prepared our selves, we went to
Tanah Lot. We met so many other tourists there. They were not only domestic but also
foreign tourists.
Second day, we enjoyed the day on Tanjung Benoa beach. We played so many water sports
such as banana boat, jetsky, speedboat etc. We also went to Penyu island to see many unique
animals. They were turtles, snakes, and sea birds. We were very happy. In the afternoon, we
went to Kuta Beach to see the amazing sunset and enjoyed the beautiful wave.
The last day, we spent our time in Sangeh. We could enjoy the green and shady forest. There
were so many monkies. They were so tame but sometimes they could be naughty. We could
make a close interaction with them. After that, we went to Sukowati market for shopping.
That was my lovely time. I bought some Bali T-Shirt and souvenirs. [ A SERIES OF
EVENTS]

In the evening, we had to check out from the hotel. We went back home bringing so many
amazing memories of Bali. [RE-ORIENTATION]

What did you do last week?

Pastinya pertanyaan semacam itu sering kita dengar dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Untuk
menjawabnya tentunya kita perlu menyebutkan kegiatan apa yang telah kita lakukan, misalnya kita
menjawab, “ Oh, minggu lalu saya jalan-jalan ke Jerman (maaf, khayalan tingkat tinggi). Tapi kadang,
orang lain tidak puas hanya dengan jawaban sesingkat itu apalagi jika ceritanya menarik, tentu akan
menimbulkan rasa penasaran dari pendengar sehingga ia berusaha untuk bertanya lebih jauh tentang
kegiatan kita tersebut. Misalnya pendengar tadi kemudian berkata, “ Wow, Jerman?, kamu pergi ama
siapa? Kapan berangkatnya kok aku gak dikasi tau, kesananya naik apa? pesawat apa angkot? Berapa
lama di jalan? berapa hari disana? nginap di hotel atau losmen? Enak-enak gak makanannya?enakan
mana sama sinonggi?. Upps stop ....nyerocos terus sih!.

Hmmm kalo udah panjang gitu pertanyaannya mending kita suruh dia dengerin cerita kita dari
awal sampai akhir. Bisa secara oral (spoken) atau tertulis(written). Nah, teks macam itu namanya
“RECOUNT TEXT”. But, remember recount dalam bahasa Inggris tidak sesederhana dalam bahasa
indonesia yang mana kita cukup menceritakan pengalaman kita dari awal sampai akhir secara
kronologis dan biasanya ditutup dengan kesimpulan atau kesan.

Nah, dalam text berbahasa inggris agak sedikit rumit (tapi gak bakalan rumit kalau udah tau
tenses) karena bahasa inggris punya sistem kala (tenses). Jadi yang perlu digaris bawahi adalah text ini
harus menggunakan PAST TENSE. Karena kegiatan tersebut kita lakukan di masa lampau.

The Definition Of Recount Text

Recount text is a text that is used to retell events that happened in the past through sequences
events for the purpose of informing or entertaining.

The generic structures of recount text are :

Ø  Orientation ( it gives the readers the background information needed to understand the text such as who
was involved, where it happened, when it happened)
Ø  Events (a series of events, ordered in a chronological sequence)

Ø   Re-orientation (restates the writer's opinion or personal comment of the writer on the incident

The language features of recount text are :

 
Ø  Use of simple past tense 
Ø  Use of temporal conjunctions (when, after, before, next, later, then)
Ø  Use of personal pronoun (I, we)
Ø  Use of action verbs
Example : Went, Spent, Played .
Ø  Use of adverb and adverb of phrases
Example : In My House, Two Day Ago, Yesterday, Last Year .
Ø  Adjectives
Example : Beautiful, Sunny .

SIMPLE PAST TENSE

A.   VERBAL SENTENCE.

S + V2 + O (positive sentence)

S + did + not + V1 + O (negative sentence)

Did + S + V1 + O (interrogative sentence)

Example:

(-) Mercy did not go to Jakarta
(?) Did Lutfiyyah go to Jakarta?
 B.   NOMINAL SENTENCE

S + to be (was/were) + adj/adv/N (positive sentence)

S + was/ were + not + adj /adv/N (negative sentence)

Was/ were + S + adj/adv/N (interrogative sentence)

Example:

(+) Tiufatin was in Malaysia

(-) Inggrid was not happy

Recount Text Material
1.        Purpose:
to tell the readers what happened in the past through a sequence of events (in order in which the
events occured). Usually recount is about an experience. It can be what the writer has done, heard,
 read, and left. Recount presents the past experience in order of time or place. It summarizes the
introduction and close with the writer’s subjective feeling concerning the events.
2.        Generic Structures:   
·       Orientation (Telling the participants who were involved, the setting  where the event took place and
when it happened).
·       Events (Telling what happened / the events in chronological order).
·       Reorientation (Summarizing the events or closing statement).
3.        Language features:    
·      Use of simple past tense. E.g. went, took, etc.
·      Focus on temporal sequences, e.g. on Sunday, Monday
·      Focus on specific participants, e.g. I (the writer)
·      Use of action verbs, e.g. went, stayed

Pengertian dan Contoh Recount Text

Kali ini kita membahas tentang pengertian recount text, tipe recount text,
general stucture if recount text, dan features (kebahasaan) of recount text.

Recount text adalah teks yang menceritakan kembali kejadian atau pengalaman
masa lalu. Tujuan teks ini yaitu untuk menginformasikan, menghibbur atau
menceritakan kembali kejadian masa lalu ada pembaca.

Tipe recount text:

 Personal recount, biasanya menceritakan kejadian yang penulis alami.

 Factual recount, rekam jejak sebuah peristiwa, contoh eksperimen ilmu sains.
 Imaginative recount, berisi tokoh imajinasi dan memberikan detil pada
kejadian.

General structure of recount:

 Orientation, memberikan gambaran latar dan mengenalkan tokoh.

 Events, menceritakan apa yang terjadi, dengan berurutan.

 Re-orientation, penutup dari events (opsional).

Features (kebahasaan) of recount:

 Fokus pada tokoh utama, contoh I, my friend, dsb.

 Menggunakan chronological connection, contoh then, first, dsb.

 Menggunakan linking verb, contoh was, saw, heard, dsb.

 Menggunakan action verb, contoh look, go, change, dsb.

 Recount text mempunyai judul yang biasanya merangkum keseluruhan teks.

 Tokohnya spesifik atau dikenali.

 Detil dari events dipilih untuk membantu pembaca memahami aktivitas atau
peristiwa (factual recount).

 Paragraf akhir mendeskripsikan akibat dari peristiwa yang diceritakan (factual

recount).

 Detil dari waktu, tempat, dan peristiwa harus dijelaskan secara rinci (factual
recount).

 Memasukkan pemikiran penulis/reaksi (imaginative recount)

 Menggunakan material process.

 Mendeskripsikan events.

 Menggunakan adverb dan kadang-kadang passive voice.

  Menggunakan simple past tense.

My Friend Michelle

When I was in the first grade of Primary School, I had a friend, Michelle. She
was the friendliest and the most intelligent student in the class. We soon became very
close to each other because we had a lot of things in common.

Now, we are in the second year. We are not in the same class anymore, but we
spend a lot of time together. We study together, do some assignments and hang out for
fun.
Friends are as valuable as diamonds. We do realize it and promise that we will
remain good friends as long as we live.

What is Recount?
1. 1.      Definition of Recount

Recount is a text which retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is either to
inform or to entertain the audience. There is no complication among the participants and that
differentiates from narrative

2. Events: Describing series of event that happened in the past

3. Reorientation: It is optional. Stating personal comment of the writer to the story

Our trip to the Blue Mountain

Orientation On Friday we went to the Blue Mountains. We stayed at David and
Della’s house. It has a big garden with lots of colourful flowers and a
tennis court.
Events On Saturday we saw the Three Sisters and went on the scenic railway.
It was scary. Then, Mummy and I went shopping with Della. We went
to some antique shops and I tried on some old hats.

On Sunday we went on the Scenic Skyway and it rocked. We saw

cockatoos having a shower.
Reorientation In the afternoon we went home.
 

Example of Recount text

1. A.     Vacation to London

Mr. Richard’s family was on vacation. They are Mr. and Mrs. Richard with two sons. They
went to London. They saw their travel agent and booked their tickets. They went to the
British Embassy to get visas to enter Britain. They had booked fourteen days tour. This
includes travel and accommodation. They also included tours around London

They boarded a large Boeing flight. The flight was nearly fourteen hours. On the plane the
cabin crews were very friendly. They gave them news paper and magazine to read. They gave
them food and drink. There was a film for their entertainment. They had a very pleasant
flight. They slept part of the way.

On arrival at Heathrow Airport, they had to go to Customs and Immigration. The officers
were pleasant. They checked the document carefully but their manners were very polite. Mr.
Richard and his family collected their bags and went to London Welcome Desk. They
arranged the transfer to a hotel.

The hotel was a well-known four-star hotel. The room had perfect view of the park. The room
had its own bathroom and toilet. Instead of keys for the room, they inserted a key-card to
open the door. On the third floor, there was a restaurant serving Asian and European food.
They had variety of food.

The two week in London went by fast. At the end of the 14-day, they were quite tired but
they felt very happy.

1. B.      Between Recount and Narrative

Something which happened in the past is the main resource to compose both recount and
narrative text. In writer’s point of view, the thing is an experience. It can be what the writer
has done, hear, read, and felt. Composing recount and narrative is retelling the experiences of
the past event to be a present event.

What does recount differ from narrative?

The easiest way to catch the difference is analyzing the generic structure. Recount text
presents the past experiences in order of time or place; what happened on Sunday, then on
Monday, the on Tuesday. In simple way, recount describes series of events in detail. It does
not expose the struggle on how to make them happen. The event happened smoothly. On the
other hand, narrative introduces crises and how to solve them. Narrative text always appear as
a hard potrait of participant’s past experience. It reveals the conflict among the participants.
Cinderella’s conflicts with her step mother and sister are the example. The conflict is the
most important element in a narrative text. Narrative without comflicts is not narrative any
more.

1. C.      Visiting Bali

There were so many places to see in Bali that my friend decided to join the tours to see as
much as possible. My friend stayed in Kuta on arrival. He spent the first three days
swimming and surfing on Kuta beach. He visited some tour agents and selected two tours.
The first one was to Singaraja, the second was to Ubud.

On the day of the tour, he was ready. My friend and his group drove on through mountains.
Singaraja is a city of about 90 thousands people. It is a busy but quiet town. The street are
lined with trees and there are many old Dutch houses. Then they returned very late in the
evening to Kuta.

The second tour to Ubud was a very different tour. It was not to see the scenery but to see the

There my friend watched young boys were carving away at big blocks of stone. The next stop
was Celuk, a center for silversmiths and goldensmiths. After that he stopped a little while for
lunch at Sukawati and on to mass. Mass is a tourist center

My friend ten-day-stay ended very quickly beside his two tour, all his day was spent on the
beach. He went sailing or surfboarding every day. He was quiet satisfied.

1. D.     My Horrible Experience

Let me remind you my experience during an earthquake last week. When the earthquake
happened, I was on my car. I was driving home from my vocation to Bali.

Suddenly my car lunched to one side, to the left. I thought I got flat tire. I did not know that it
was an earthquake. I knew it was an earthquake when I saw some telephone and electricity
poles falling down to the ground, like matchsticks.

Then I saw a lot of rocks tumbling across the road. I was trapped by the rock. Even I could
not move my car at all. There were rocks everywhere. There was nothing I could do but left
the car and walked along way to my house, in the town.

When I reached my town, I was so surprised that there was almost nothing left. The
earthquake made a lot of damage to my town. Although nothing was left, I thanked God that
nobody was seriously injured.

Generic Structure Analysis

1. E.      My Grandpa’s Funeral in Toraja

Last month my family and I went to Toraja to attend Grandpa’s funeral. It was my first time
to go to such a ceremony. We gathered there with our kin in the ceremony.

Overall, the ceremony was quite elaborate. It took about a week. Several days before the
ceremony was done, grandpa’s body was kept in a series of houses arranged in a circular row
around an open field called tongkonan. His corpse was dressed in a fi ne wearing.

The funeral was performed in two phases. First, we slaughtered the pigs and buffaloes, and
then moved the corpse to face north. In this ceremony we wore black clothes. After that, the
corpse was placed in a sandal wood coffin. Then, it was brought out of the house and placed
on an open platform beneath the granary. Meanwhile, my uncle, my brother, and I prepared
the wooden puppet and a funeral tower called lakian. The next phase of the ceremony was
held in this place. The coffin is borne from the house and placed in the lakian. During the
day, there were also buffalo matches. They were great matches. In the night, we were
feasting, chanting, and dancing.

On the last day, the grandpa’s coffin were lowered from the funeral tower and brought up to
the mountain side family graveyard. It was followed by great shouting and excitement from
the relatives and the guests. Finally, we installed the wooden puppet on a high balcony where
other puppets representing the members of a whole family were already there. The funeral
ceremonies made my family and me tired. However, we were grateful because it ran
smoothly.

A recount text is a text that tells you a part of experience. A recount text has an orientation, a
series of events in chronological order, personal remarks on the events and a reorientation
that “rounds off” the sequence of events. In the text, you find words and phrases used to start,
connect a sentence with the next one, and end your composition. Those words and phrases
are:

Recount Text - Penjelasan & Contoh

 Belajar memahami kembali recount text lagi... Jika sobat masih bingung cara membuat
recount text, alangkah baiknya sobat baca tulisan ini. Mungkin saja penjelasan tentang recount text ini
bisa membantu mempermudah pemahaman jenis teks yang "konon" mirip dengan narrative text ini.
Jika dalam narrative text, ada sebuah komplikasi atau masalah yang muncul dalam sebuah
cerita; maka berbeda dengan recount text. Apa sih bedanya? Oke kita lanjutkan, dalam recount text,
yang ada hanya sebuah peristiwa saja (event); serta urutan-urutan ceritanya tertata rapi. (Note: Mohon
maaf saya bukan guru bahasa Inggris, saya sebenarnya lebih setuju jika recount text ini dikatakan
sebagai nenek moyang narrative text. Meski dalam linguistics saya belum menemukan 'kata yang pas'
untuk jenis teks ini).
Untuk lebih jelas, mari kita pahami keterangan berikut.

Pengertian Recount Text

Recount Text - Retell

Secara harfiah, recount bermakna "menceritakan". Jadi recount text bisa diartikan sebagai
"Text yang menceritakan". Jika mengacu pada keterangan di buku-buku sekolah (baca : Buku Bahasa
Inggris SMP / SMA) recount text adalah a text that telling the reader about one story, action or
activity. Its goal is to entertaining or informing the reader. (sebuah teks yang menceritakan sebuah
cerita, aksi ataupun aktifitas. Tujuan recount text adalah untuk menghibur atau menginformasikan
pembaca.)

Generic Structure dari Recount Text

Generic structure (susunan umum) recount text ini terdiri dari:
  Orientation tells who was involved, what happened, where the events took place, and when it
happened. ("Orientation" menceritakan siapa saja yang terlibat dalam cerita, apa yang terjadi,
di mana tempat peristiwa terjadi, dan kapan terjadi peristiwanya)

 Events tell what happened and in what sequence. ("Event" menceritakan apa yang terjadi
(lagi) dan menceritakan urutan ceritanya)

 Reorientation consists of optional-closure of events/ending. ("Reorientation" berisi penutup

cerita / akhir cerita)

My Adolescence

I had my adolescence when I was thirteen.

It started with acne that showed up on my face. It was very annoying. It lowered my self-esteem and I
was embarrassed to come out of my house and play with friends.
Fortunately, my Mum gave me a good medicine. In three weeks, the acnes started to vanish
although those showed some black spots in my face.

That was my bad experience with adolescence, though there were still lots of good experience too.

Orientation : Paragraf pertama, (I had my adolescence when I was thirteen)
Events : Paragraf kedua dan ketiga.
Reorientation : Paragraf keempat (terakhir)

Contoh Recount Text (2) - Liburan

My Holiday in Bali

When I was 2nd grade of senior high school, my friends and I went to Bali. We were there for three days. I had
many impressive experiences during the vacation.
 First day, we visited Sanur Beach in the morning. We saw the beautiful sunrise together. It was a great
scenery. Then, we checked in to the hotel. After prepared our selves, we went to Tanah Lot. We met so many
other tourists there. They were not only domestic but also foreign tourists.
Second day, we enjoyed the day on Tanjung Benoa beach. We played so many water sports such as
banana boat, jetsky, speedboat etc. We also went to Penyu island to see many unique animals. They were turtles,
snakes, and sea birds. We were very happy. In the afternoon, we went to Kuta Beach to see the amazing sunset
and enjoyed the beautiful wave.
The last day, we spent our time in Sangeh. We could enjoy the green and shady forest. There were so
many monkies. They were so tame but sometimes they could be naughty. We could make a close interaction
with them. After that, we went to Sukowati market for shopping. That was my lovely time. I bought some Bali
T-Shirt and souvenirs.
In the evening, we had to check out from the hotel. We went back home bringing so many amazing
memories of Bali.

Contoh Recount Text (3) - Liburan

A Beautiful Day at Jogja

Last week, my friends and I went to Jogja. We visited many places.

First, we visited Parangtritis beach. The sun shone brightly and the scenery was very beautiful there. We felt the
wind blew across to us. We also saw a lot of people in that beach. There werw many birds flew in the sky. Also,
there were many sellers who sold many kinds of souvenirs. Second, we visited Gembira Loka Zoo. We saw
many kinds of animals there such as monkeys, tigers, crocodiles, snakes, etc. We looked around in that Zoo, and
also took pictures of those animals. Then, we felt hungry, so we went to a restaurant. As soon as we finished our
lunc, we decided to go home.
For me, that was a beautiful day. we really enjoyed it, and I hope I could visit Jogja again.

My First Experience to Ride Motorcycle

One day, when I was ten years old, my father bought an old motorcycle. That was " Honda
75". I think it was small light object and easy to ride it. I persuaded my father to teach me to ride "
Honda 75 ". Firstly, my father refused my request and promised that he would teach me two or three
years later, but I still whimpered. Finally, my father surrendered and promised to teach me.

He began to teach me riding the motorcycle around a field in my village. My father was very patient
to give me some directions. I was very happy when I realized my ability to ride a motorcycle. " Yes, I
can ".

One day later, when I was alone at home, I intended to try my riding ability. So, myself tried bravely.
All ran fluently in the beginning, but when I was going back to my home and I must passed through a
narrow slippery street, I got nervous. I lost my control and I fell to the ditch.

After that, I told my father about the last accident. I imagined my father would be angry and never let
me ride again. But the reality is exactly on the contrary, my father was very proud of me. He just gave
me some advices and since that accident, I got my father's permission to ride motorcycle.

It was takbiran night. It was also my birthday, and nothing happened. Or I had thought nothing would
happen, but I was wrong.
 
That night, I was watching television with my family when I heard someone lit fireworks in my front
yard. I peeped trough my window glass but could see nothing. It was very dark outside. Then I thought it had to
be my cousins who lit the fireworks. Then I plopped down on my sofa again and tried to concentrate on the
television since my mind raced with disappointment that no one gave something special on my birthday. I
shrugged, it was almost the end of the day and I became pessimist. Five minutes later my mobile beeped. It was
a text from my friend asking me to come out. Wondering what was going on, I grabbed my jacket and hurried to
the front door. I was surprised to see her bring a bag full of firework and fire drills. Next I was surprised to see
my other friend come out from the darkness. She brought a beautiful birthday cake on her hands. Oh my God! I
shrieked. Then they gave the cake to me who was too stunned to say anything. I realized I was blushing
furiously because my whole family was watching. Not to mention my neighbors too!
 
 A plain day, or I thought it was before, turned out to be one of the greatest moment in my life. I didn’t
even know how to describe what I felt. Happy was the simplest word.

List of Examples (Recount Text)

Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb.

Today I'm going to share some examples about Recount Text. As we know, this text is very
popular in our life, Recount text may be our note, personal diary, or social activity. First what is
Recount text?

Let me answer with simple one, Recount Text is a text which retells events or experiences in
the past chronologically. This text describes about the writer's personal experience which truly
happens in his or her life. The experience may be horror, fun, etc.
 The purpose or the social function of Recount text is to retell or to inform the reader about
what was happened to the writer with series of events.

 The generic structures of Recount Text:

1. Orientation       : In orientation, the paragraph usually introduces the participants, who are
being involved in the text.

2. Events                  : Usually there are many events may be occurred in Recount text, events
may be started in the first paragraph, so it is not always started in the second paragraph. The
events usually started with time signals, such as; first, second, then, finally, etc.

3. Reorientation     : It is the closure of the events. Reorientation is optional, some text may not
include this. If there is, usually in the last paragraph.

The language features of Recount Text

Language features is a characteristic of a text, to make it is easily recognized, what tense is

used, and so on. 

1. Introducing the participants

2. Using chronological conjunctions, such as; first, second, then, etc.

3. Using action verb, such as; went, arrived, ate, jumped, etc

4. The important one is, using simple past tense.

The examples of Recount Text:

A Day Visit to Yogyakarta

Last week, I went to Yogyakarta with my family. My father drove the car. My mother sat
beside him. My sister and I sat in the back seats.

We woke up early in the morning. My father prepared the car in the garage while mother was
preparing food for breakfast and some snacks for us. My sister and I packed some clothes. After
everything got ready and we had our breakfast, we left the house at six o'clock.
 It was about nine A.M. We arrived at Yogyakarta. First of all we visited our uncle. We stayed
there for an hour. Then we went to Parangtritis beach. We got there at eleven o'clock. There were a lot
of tourists because it was holiday. I saw many foreign visitors too. My parents watched us playing
with sand in the beach. We did not swim and take a bath since the wave was rough. After having
lunch, we went on our picnic to the museum and Malioboro shopping centre.

We drove back to Semarang at 7 o'clock and arrived home at ten. We were tired but happy.

A Bomb in Plane

I am used to travelling by air but only on one occasion I felt frightened. After taking foo, we
flew low over the city. It slowly wen high to the sky.

But suddenly it turned round and flew back to the airport. An air-hostess told us to keep calm
and to get off the place quietly as soon as it landed. After we landed, the police searched the plane
carefully. Everybody on board was worried and we grew curious about what was happening.

Later, we learned that there was a very important person on board. Earlier, somebody told the
police that there was a bomb on the plane. Fortunately, they did not find a bomb and five hours later
we were able to take off again.

Last Saturday, I woke up early. I didn't get up from my bed because there was no school.
Suddenly, my telephone rang. It was my friend, Fanny. She asked me to go out at 10.00 o'clock. She
wanted to buy something in the traditional market. So I hopped from the bed and headed to the
shower.

Finally, we were out. In the street, I saw a piece of pink paper. I took it and we read it. We were
shocked, it was a voucher for a four night tour to Lombok. The expired date was that day. To our
surprised, the name was Fenita and the birth date was exactly the same as Fanny, my friend, and it
was also valid for two persons. My God! We were thinking that maybe the paper just fell from the sky
for us.

We were hurried to the tour agency that issued the voucher. The tour agency took care of everything.
We went home and still couldn't believe what was going on. Two days later we were on the Senggigi
Beach, Lombok.

Well, I think that's it for Recount text, I will post more examples later. And hopefully for
teachers this will help them in designing appropriate material about Recount text, and for students
they can understand what is the definition and its purpose, and what are the characteristics of it.
