Bahasa yg digunakan dalam percakapan tersebut yaitu bahasa informal, karena bahasa informal
biasanya digunakan untuk percakapan sehari-hari dengan teman atau rekan sejawat di kantor pada
saat sedang berbicara santai. Kosa kata bahasa informal juga lebih beragam, bahkan sekarang
sudah banyak dimodifikasi menjadi bahasa “slang” yang penggunaannya banyak dipakai oleh
anak-anak muda atau anak sekolah kepada temannya. Bahasa informal juga bisa digunakan pada
saat sedang chat atau email dengan teman atau sahabat.

Percakapan tersebut mengunakan bahasa informal karena kedua orang tersebut saling mngenal
dan akrab sebagai teman, percakapan tidak resmi atau santai (informal conversations) digunakan
dalam percakapan sehari-hari yang suasananya lebih santai, seperti ketika mengobrol tentang
buku terbaru atau topik lainnya dengan keluarga atau teman. Ada beberapa karakteristik yang
terlebih dahulu harus kita perhatikan ketika akan terlibat dalam percakapan yang bersifat santai,
atau ketika kita membuat dialog percakapan informal dalam tulisan. Ini dikarenakan karena para
penutur asli (native speakers) cenderung memasukkan beberapa karakteristik ini dalam
percakapan yang bersifat lebih santai.
Topik dalam percakapan tersebut yaitu sepasang teman yang akhirnya punya waktu untuk
bertemu, dan helen yang menanyai jane tentan wawancara nya apakah berjalan dengan lancer dan
jane yg berharap mendapatkan pekerjaan.
