Stroke is the main health problem in developed and developing countries and the
primary cause of morbidity of adult people. It also induces a large impact on social and
economic aspects due to the relatively expensive medication cost. As consequence of the
morbidity that it induces, its sufferers’ ability to work is lessened and they become social
burdens to the communities. The stroke patients require long time of care.
This research used the quantitative research method with the correlational study
design. Its population was 35 stroke respondents in the work area of Community Health
Center of Ngemplak, Boyolali Regency. Total sampling technique was used to determine its
samples.
Most of the respondents were aged 57.5 years. 68.6% of them were males, 54.3%
were graduates of Senior Secondary Schools, 51.4% of them were farmers, and 88.1% were
married. The length of illness of the stroke respondents was minimally one year and
maximally seven years with the average length of illness of 3.82 years. The minimal and
maximal scores of the quality of life the stroke respondents were 41 and 86, and the average
score of their quality of life was 64.1. The result of the Spearman’s Rank Correlation was
the p-value = 0.00 and the r-value was -0.842, meaning that the correlation was strong.
Thus, there was a correlation between the length of illness and the quality of life of
stroke patients at the work area of Community Health Center of Ngemplak, Boyolali
