 Ciri-ciri utama pinophyta
Sifat utama dari divisi Pinophyta adalah tumbuhan berbiji telanjang, yang tumbuh kurang
lebih terdedah ke udara pada permukaan strobilus atau pada pangkal siantara daun-daun.
Serbuk sari dari Pinophyta berkecambah pada ovul. Sebagian besar berupa tumbuhan
berkayu, semak rendah sampai pohon yang tinggi, sedangkan pada Magnoliophyta
umumnya berupa tumbuhan herba.
1. Tidak adanya pembuluh trakea pada xilem, kecuali pada anak divisi Gnetophytina
2. Tidak adanya sel pengantar pada floem
3. Adanya gametofit betina yang terdiri dari banyak sel atau banyak nukleus
4. Tidak adanya pembuahan ganda
5. Adanya arkehonium pada gametofit betina, kecuali pada Gnetum dan Welwitschia

Termasuk kedalam tumbuhan biji terbuka yang memiliki bentuk seperti pohon
kelapa.
Memilki daun yang terbuka dengan tulang daun yang sejajar.
Pada daun yang masih muda akan menggulung seperti tanaman paku.
Memiliki batang yang bulat dan tidak bercabang.
Susunan anak daunnya berpasang-pasangan.
Sebuah tanaman yang memiliki akar tunggang.
Klorofil yang terdapat didalam tanaman ini tidak ada di Kloroplas, melainkan
tersebar kesemua bagian sitoplasma.
Mempunyai sebuah pigmen fikosianin.
Pada tumbuhan Cycas jantan memiliki sebuah runjung yang berukuran lebih
besar diabndingkan dengan betinanya, yang tumbuh dari ujung batang.

Cycas rumphii
Habitus berupa pohon dengan ketinggian ± 6 m. Sistem perakaran Cycas
rumphii memiliki system perakaran serabut (radyx adventicia). Batangnya tidak
bercabang, bentuk percabangannya monopodial, batang berbentuk bulat (teres), arah
pertubuhan  tegak lurus (erectus), permukan batang kasar berwarna coklat kehijaun, pada
kulit batang terdapat saluran lendir. Daun merupakan daun tunggal, bangun daunnya
berbentuk  berbagi menyirip (pinnatipartitus),tulang daun sejajar (rectinervis), tepi daun
rata (integer), duduk daun roset batang. Bunganya termasuk tumbuhan berkelamin
terpisah berumah dua (unisexualis dioecus) , yang    terdiri dua daun sporofil,
yaitu mikrosporofil dan makrosporofil terdapat
dalam strobilus. Makrosporofil     ( strobilus betina) terdapat biji biji tumbuh
disampingnya, berbentik seperti keris, terdiri dari dua ovulum atau lebih tedapat pada tepi
permukaan carpellum. Mikrosporofil (strobilus jantan) berupa ruang besar yang tumbuh di
ujung batang dan tersusun rapat, terdapat mikrosporangium dan mikrospora. Bunga
berbentuk bulir dengan petiolus pendek dan berwarna kecoklatan. Biji terdapat pada
permuakan daun buah (carpellum) bentuknya bulat.
