KONSEP MASYARAKAT INFORMASI
Menurut William Martin (dalam Syifa, www.geocities.com) masyarakat informasi adalah suatu masyarakat di mana kualitas hidup, dan
juga prospek untuk perubahan sosial dan pembangunan ekonomi tergantung pada peningkatan informasi dan pemanfaatannya.
Sedangkan menurut ilmukomunikasi, masyarakat informasi adalah masyarakat yang menjadikan informasi sebagai komoditas ekonomi
yang sangat berharga, berhubungan dengan masyarakat lain dalam sistem komunikasi global, dan mengakses informasi super highway
(Abrar, 2003)
Konsep masyarakat informasi muncul pada tahun 1970-an, di mana saat itu terjadi peralihan dari masyarakat industri menuju masyarakat
informasi. Information society atau masyarakat informasi adalah suatu keadaan masyarakat di mana produksi, distribusi dan manipulasi
suatu informasi menjadi kegiatan utama
