Urgensi Assesment dalam

Pendidikan Matematika
Menurut Popham (1995:4-13) assesment bertujuan untuk antara lain untuk:
(1) mendiagnosa kelebihan dan kelemahan siswa dalam belajar,
(2) memonitor kemajuan siswa,
(3) menentukan jenjang kemampuan siswa,
(4) menentukan efektivitas pembelajaran,
(5) mempengaruhi persepsi publik tentang efektivitas pembelajaran,
(6) mengevaluasi kinerja guru kelas,
(7) mengklarifikasi tujuan pembelajaran yang dirancang guru.

Professor Emeritus,University of California, Los Angeles mengatakan ada beberapa

dapat dimodifikasi. Penilaian sumatif, sebaliknya, mengacu pada penggunaan tes

3. Menetapkan Nilai

sebelum memutuskan apakah akan memberikan A, B, C, D, atau F kepada
seorang siswa. Beberapa sistem sekolah menerapkan sistem penilaian siswa yang
kurang tradisional—misalnya, penggunaan laporan deskriptif verbal yang
disampaikan kepada orang tua. Namun, apa pun sistem pelaporan yang
digunakan, jelas kegiatan penilaian guru dapat memberikan bukti yang
diperlukan untuk membuat penilaian siswa per siswa yang masuk akal. Semakin

kepada siswa.
4. Menentukan Keefektifan Instruksional Sendiri

Misalkan seorang guru menetapkan agar siswanya menguasai serangkaian


keterampilan dan pengetahuan yang bermanfaat tentang Topik X selama unit
pengajaran 3 minggu. Sebelum pengajaran, tes singkat menunjukkan bahwa
siswa hampir tidak tahu apa-apa tentang Topik X , tetapi setelah unit selesai, tes
yang lebih panjang menunjukkan bahwa siswa telah menguasai sebagian besar
keterampilan dan pengetahuan yang dibahas selama unit Topik X. Karena
perbandingan hasil pretest dan posttest siswa menunjukkan siswa guru telah
memperoleh banyak pengetahuan dan keterampilan mengenai Topik X, guru
memiliki banyak bukti bahwa pendekatan instruksional yang digunakan
tampaknya berhasil. Jika instruksi guru tampaknya mempromosikan hasil yang
diinginkan, maka mungkin tidak perlu banyak diubah.
