● Segala puji bagi Allah Tuhan semesta alam. Shalawat serta salam semoga tetap tercurahkan
atas junjungan kita Muhammad SAW; utusan yang paling mulia diantara para utusan Allah,
dan sekaligus sebagai nabi penutup akhir zaman, juga atas para keluarganya yang bagus, dan
para sahabat beliau yang suci. Amin…
● Ammaa Ba’du, telah diriwayatkan dari siti ‘Aisyah r.a. dari Rasululloah SAW beliau bersabda
“Kewajiban anak terhadap orang tuanya adalah memberikan anaknya nama-nama yang bagus,
memberikan air susu (menyusui) yang bagus kepada anaknya, dan memberikan didikan budi
pekerti yang baik kepada anaknya”.
● Diriwayatkan dari Ibnu Sirin ra., ia berkata: “Para sahabat dan para tabi’in mereka semua
mempelajari petunjuk, sebagaimana mereka mempelajari ilmu pengetahuan”.
● Diriwayatkan dari Hasan Al Bashri ra.Ia berkata: “Bahwasanya ada seorang lelaki keluar dari
tempat tinggalnya untuk mendidik jiwanya dalam beberapa tahun.

● Pada pribadi beliau ditampakkan beberapa hal yang pantas dicontoh;budi pekerti, tindaktanduk
dan petunjuk-petunjuknya.Adapun segala perilaku yang sesuai dengan kepribadian beliau,
maka hal itu dianggap benar, sedangkan yang tidak sesuai dengan prilaku beliau, maka
dianggap salah.
● Diriwayatkan dari Habib Al-Syahid, ia berkata kepada putranya: “Bertemanlah engkau dengan
orang-orang yang ahli fiqh (orang yang sangat paham dalam bidang agama: penj), pelajarilah
budi pekerti dari mereka, karena hal itu lebih aku cintai dari pada engkau banyak mempelajari
ilmu hadits”.
● Ruwaim berkata: “Wahai anakku! Jadikanlah ilmumu ibarat garam (yang tersebar dilautan) dan
jadikanlah budi pekertimu ibarat (tepung yang berterbangan didaratan)”.
● Imam Syafi’i suatu ketika pernah ditanya bagaimana cara engkau mencari budi pekerti itu?”
Beliau menjawab: ”Aku mencarinya ibarat orang perempuan yang kehilangan anaknya,
kemudiania mencarinya. Sementara ia tidak mempunyai orang lain selain anak itu.

● Sebagian ulama berpendapat bahwa tauhid itu mengharuskan adanya suatu keimanan. Barangsiapa
yang tidak beriman, maka berarti ia tidak bertauhid. Iman juga mengharuskan adanya syari’at.
● Barang siapa yang tidak bersyari’at, maka berarti ia tidak beriman dan juga tidak bertauhid.
Syari’at juga mengharuskan adanya budi pekerti budi pekerti.
● Barang siapa yang tidak mempunyai budi pekerti, maka ia tidak bersyari’at, tidak beriman dan
tidak bertauhid (kepada Allah SWT).
● Apa yang telah disampaikan oleh para Nabi dan para ulama, semuanya merupakan ketentuan yang
sangat jelas. Kata–kata yang dikuatkan dengan nur ilham yang mampu menerangkan tentang
betapa luhurnya kedudukan budi pekerti, juga menjelaskan bahwa semua perbuatan yang bersifat
keagamaan, baik yang bersifat bathiniyah maupun lahiriyah, baik ucapan maupun perbuatan.
● Hal itu tidak akan dianggap sebagai amal, kecuali apabila perbuatan tersebut dibarengi dengan
budi pekertiyang baik, sifat-sifat yang terpuji dan akhlaq yang mulia.
● Karena menghiasi amal perbuatan dengan budi pekerti yang baik diwaktu sekarang itu merupakan
tanda diterimannya amaldi saat nanti.

● Di samping itu juga, budi pekerti yang baik sebagaimana dibutuhkan oleh pelajar (santri)
Ketika ia belajar, seorang guru juga membutuhkannya ketika sedang dalam proses belajar
mengajar.
● Ketika derajat akhlaq sudah mencapai pada tingkatan ini, sementara ketentuan kriteria akhlaq
secara detail belum lah jelas.
● Maka apa yang aku lihat, yakni kebutuhan para pelajar akan budi pekerti dan susahnya
mengulang-ulang untuk mengingatkan kesalahan akhlaq mereka, telah mendorong aku untuk
mengumpulkan risalah ini sebagai pengingat pribadiku sendiri khususnya dan umumnya
orangorang yang memiliki wawasan dangkal.
● Kemudian aku beri nama risalah ini dengan nama “Adab al Alim Wa al Muta’allim”, semoga
dengan risalah ini, Allah memberikan manfaat dalam kehidupan ini dan setelah mati nanti.
Sesungguhnya Allah adalah Dzat yang menguasai segala kebaikan.
