Goose-neck flask / Swan flask

Louis Pasteur is a biologist who support the theory of biogenesis.According to him, that living
beings must come from living things again.To prove his theory, Louis Pasteur performed
experiments known as swan neck trial.

Louis Pasteur performed experiments using a goose-neck flask/swan flask. First of all the broth
boil, then silenced. After a few days, the broth remains clear and does not contain
microorganisms. Their goose neck allows air to enter into the tube, but the air of
microorganisms will be hampered in due to water vapor in the pipe neck. However, if the tube
is tilted to the broth to the surface of the pipe, the broth will be contaminated by
microorganisms air. As a result, after some time, the broth will be murky because there are
microorganisms.
Based on the results of the experiment the scientists then comes the new theory is the theory
of biogenesis states that:
1. every living thing comes from an egg = vivum Omne ex ovo,
2. each egg derived from living = Omne ex vivo ovum,
3. every living being derived from living things in advance = omne vivum ex vivo.

Louis Pasteur merupakan ahli biologi yang mendukung teori biogenesis. Menurut ia, bahwa
makhluk hidup harus berasal dari makhluk hidup lagi. Untuk membuktikan teorinya itu, Louis
Pasteur melakukan percobaan yang dikenal dengan percobaan leher angsanya.

Louis Pasteur melakukan percobaan menggunakan labu leher angsa. Pertama-tama kaldu
direbus hingga mendidih, kemudian didiamkan. Setelah beberapa hari, air kaldu tetap jernih
dan tidak mengandung mikroorganisme. Adanya leher angsa memungkinkan udara dapat
masuk ke dalam tabung, tetapi mikroorganisme udara akan terhambat masuk karena adanya
uap air pada pipa leher. Namun, apabila tabung dimiringkan hingga air kaldu sampai ke
permukaan pipa, air kaldu tersebut akan terkontaminasi oleh mikroorganisme udara.
Akibatnya setelah beberapa waktu, air kaldu akan keruh karena terdapat mikroorganisme.
Berdasarkan hasil percobaan para ilmuwan tersebut maka muncullah teori baru yaitu teori
Biogenesis yang menyatakan bahwa:
1. setiap makhluk hidup berasal dari telur = omne vivum ex ovo,
2. setiap telur berasal dari makhluk hidup = omne ovum ex vivo,
3. setiap makhluk hidup berasal dari makhluk hidup sebelumnya = omne vivum ex vivo.
