CONDITIONAL SENTECES

If clause atau conditional sentence dapat digunakan sebagai reminder, suggestion,

imperative, general truth, dan to show a dream

1. If Clause sebagai Reminder

Conditional sentence ini digunakan untuk menyatakan reminder/mengingatkan tentang
sebuah konsekuensi yang harus dilakukan jika menginginkan sebuah kondisi terjadi.

if + present simple, s + have to/ must + v1

Contoh 1
Mom    : Do you want to join the next scrabble competition Jean?
Jeanny : Yes I do mom, and I really want to be the winner.
Mom    : If you want to be the winner, you have to practice a lot.
Jeanny : Thanks, mom.

Contoh 2
Anna    : I think final exam is getting closer. It’s time for us to study more seriously.
Jessy   : Okay Anna, I do agree with you.
Anna    : If we want to pass the exam, we must study harder.
Jessy   : Yeah, we must do this from now.

2. If Clause sebagai Suggestion

Conditional sentence jenis ini digunakan untuk memberikan saran/suggestion/advice
tentang apa yang seharusnya dilakukan jika menginginkan sebuah kondisi terjadi.

IF + present simple, S + should /had better/ ough to + v1

atau

IF + present simple, why don’t + s + v1?

ontoh 1
Mom    : Why do you look so pale Jeanny?
Jeanny : Hmm I’m sick, mom. I may get headache.
Mom    : Ok, If you want to get better soon, you should get some medicine and take a rest.
Jeanny : Thanks, mom.

Contoh 2
Anna    : I really like cooking, but sometimes I don’t know what to cook. Do you have any
idea?
Jessy   : If you need to know some cooking menus, why don’t you search it in internet?
Anna    : That’s a good idea. Thanks

3. If Clause sebagai Imperative

Conditional sentence pada fungsi ini digunakan untuk menyuruh seseorang melakukan
sesuatu jika menginginkan sebuah kondisi terjadi.

if + present simple, v1 + o

Contoh 1

Mom    : What are you doing Jean?

Jeanny : Hmm I’m doing nothing mom. I just want to take a bath but the weather is so cold.

Mom    : If you want not to be late, take a bath soon!

Jeanny : Ok mom.

Contoh 2

Anna    : I really want to be a magician, but I don’t know how to master the tricks.

Jessy   : If you want to master the tricks, search in youtube and study them seriously.

Anna    : That’s a good idea. Thanks

4. If Clause Untuk Menyatakan General Truth

Conditional sentence ini digunakan untuk menyatakan fakta yang terjadi atau akan terjadi
jika menginginkan sebuah kondisi terjadi.

if + present simple, simple future

atau

if + present simple, present simple

Contoh 1

Mom    : If you add more colors to the cake, It will be more colorful.

Jeanny : Ok ,mom.

Contoh 2
 Uncle   : If the sun rises, the day begins.

Niece   : Oh yah, I see.

5. If Clause Untuk Menyatakan Dream

Conditional sentence ini biasanya digunakan untuk menyatakan sebuah mimpi di masa
depan tentang apa saja yang mungkin terjadi jika sebuah kondisi terjadi pada si
pembicara.

if + present simple, simple future

Contoh 1

Mom    : If I am elected president, I will build some apartments for all poor people in this
country.

Jeanny : Really? I wish you luck to make your dream comes true.

Contoh 2

Uncle   : If am chosen to be an army, I will dedicate all of my life to this country.

Niece   : I wish you all the best.

Task 1: Make a reminder sentences from the following sentences.
