KATA PENGANTAR
Segala puja dan puji milik Allah SWT, hanya dengan rahmat dan hidayahNya
penyusun dapat menyelesaikan MEDALI (Materi Esensial dan Latihan Intensif)
Kelas VIII untuk SMP dengan menggunakan Kurikulum 2013 (K13) .
Kami menyusun MEDALI dengan harapan dapat digunakan dalam kegiatan
pembelajaran yang akan terjadi interaksi komunikatif antara guru dan siswa dan
antara siswa dan siswa. Setiap chapternya menggunakan penedekatan ilmiah
dengan menggunakan empat ketrampilan berbahasa yang meliputi: Mendengarkan,
Berbicara, Membaca, dan Menulis yang dapat dipraktekkan secara terpadu serta
dimunculkan tugas yang harus dikerjakan secara kelompok dan individu, dengan
sendirinya dalam kegiatan pembelajaran akan terbentuk suatu Learning
Community dan bisa melatih empat ketrampilan berbahasa yang diharapkan bisa
dikuasai siswa.
Dengan desain seperti ini, diharapkan setelah pelaksanaan kegiatan
pembelajaran, siswa mampu memahami teks secara lisan maupun tertulis sekaligus
mampu menggunakan bahasa Inggris dalam kehidupan sehari hari-hari.
Kami yakin MEDALI ini jauh dari sempurna. Untuk itu kami sangat mengharap
saran dan masukan guna penyempurnaan pada edisi berikutnya.
Akhirnya kami mengucapkan terima kasih kepada semua pihak yang telah

Whereas when you listen to a story, you can use several expressions to show that you are
paying attention to what is being talked about.

4.1 Menyusun teks interaksi intrepersonal lisan dan tulis ssangat pendek dan sederhana
yang melibatkan tindakan menyuruh, mengajak, meminta izin, dan menanggapinya dengan
memperhatikan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan yang benar dan sesuai
konteks.

Pay attention to the bold sentences in Activity 1. The sentences are to instruct or
request other people about what should do; to wear a T-shirt, to walk together, and to be on
time.
When we instruct or ask a person to do tasks, we must do it politely. To make our
instructions or requests sound polite, we may use the word “please”. Here are the
examples:
- Pay attention, please.
- Turn off the lamp before going to bed, please.
- Please open your book on page 7.
- Let’s arrive at the meeting on time.
- Don’t forget to lock the door before you leave.

Sonia: I’ve been from the principal’s office. He asked me to meet him, to talk about the

Observe the bold sentences in the dialogs in TASK 2. The sentences are used to invite
a friend; to go out for exercise, to join the boys in the yard, to come to a birthday party, to go
to the library, and to visit a cultural carnival. As the responses, the sentences “OK”, “Sure, I’d
love to”, and “With pleasure” are used to accept an invitation, while the sentences “I’d love to,
but I can’t. I’ll be out of town” and Sorry, I can’t. I’m going to the canteen” are used to decline
an invitation.
Here are other expressions to invite and their responses.

There is and There are dalam bahasa Indonesia berarti ada atau terdapat, There is
and There are ini digunakan untuk menunjukkan suatu benda dalam suatau tempat, oleh
yaitu untuk penggunaan kata ini maka harus banyak mengetahui kata benda (Noun) dalam
bahasa inggris.

There is (ada/terdapat) digunakan untuk kata benda yang jumlahnya tunggal atau satu.
Dalam bahasa inggris Sebuah, Seorang, Seekor di tandai dengana dan an, misalnya a book
(sebuah buku/satu buku), a student (seorang siswa), a cat (seekor kucing), a pen (Sebuah
pulpen).Berikut contoh aplikasi dalam kalimat.
- Terdapat sebuah mobil di dalam rumah.
- Terdapat sebuah tas di atas meja.
- Terdapat seorang guru dan terdapat seorang siswa dalam kelas.
Perhatikan kalimat di atas, semua kalimat menunjukkan benda yang berjumlah satu (Sebuah
mobil, Sebuah Tas, Seorang Guru) olehnya itu kita gunakan there is karena jumlah benda
yang akan ditunjukkan adalah Tunggal atau satu. Maka dalam bahasa inggris sebagai
berikut:
- There is a car in the house (Terdapat sebuah mobil di dalam rumah)
- There is a bag in the table (Terdapat sebuah tas di atas meja)
- There is a teacher and there is a student in the class (Terdapat seorang guru dan
terdapat seorang siswa di dalam kelas)
Untuk pembentukan kalimat negative maka tuliskan NOT setelah There is sehingga menjad
iThere is not (tidak ada/tidak terdapat). Example:
There are
There are (ada/terdapat) digunakan untuk kata benda yang jumlahnya lebih dari satu atau
banyak. Misalnya: Two books (Dua buah buku), books (buku-buku), seven students (tujuh
orang siswa), many teachers (banyak guru), much water (banyak air) dll. Ingat bahwa setiap
kata benda yang lebih dari satu maka kata benda tersebut di tambah “s” atau “es”.Aplikasi
dalam kalimat yang menunjukkan benda lebih dari satu:
Perhatikan kalimat di atas, semua kalimat menunjukkan benda yang lebih dari satu maupun
banyak dan tidak ada yang tunggal, yaitu kita gunakan there are. Perhatikan contoh berikut:
QUANTIFIER
Quantifier adalah kata atau kelompok kata yang digunakan untuk menyatakan jumlah.
1. Some students come to their classroom when the bell was ringing. (Beberapa siswa
memasuki ruangan kelas mereka ketika bel berbunyi)
2. Do you need much sugar? (Apakah kamu membutuhkan banyak gula?)
A. Perbedaan countable dan uncountable noun
Countable noun: kata benda yang dapat dihitung satu persatu. Contohnya flower,
stone, bag dll.
Uncountable noun: kata benda yang tidak dapat dihitung satu persatu. Contohnya
sugar, water, money dll.
B. Penggunaan a lot of
A lot of (banyak): quantifier yang hanya digunakan dalam kalimat positive dengan
kata benda yang countable maupun yang uncountable.
1. Dina has a lot of friends. (Dina mempunyai banyak teman)
2. He has a lot of cars. (Dia mempunyai banyak mobil)
3. I need a lot of water. (Aku membutuhkan banyak air)
4. I have a lot of money. (Aku mempunyai banyak uang)
