NOUN PHRASE
A. PENGERTIAN
Phrase atau frasa adalah kelompok kata, tanpa subjek atau predikat, yang berfungsi sebagai
bagian tunggal dari kalimat. Frase tidak dapat berdiri sendiri sebagai unit independen
seperti kalimat.

Noun phrase adalah frasa yang terdiri dari noun sebagai inti (head) sedangkan kata lainnya
hanya sebagai penjelas kata benda tersebut.

B. PEMBENTUKAN NOUN PHRASE

Inti dari noun phrase adalah noun sebagai head atau inti dari kata tersebut. Sehingga
walaupun ada sekelompok kata yang menjelaskan noun yang diawali sebuah determiner
atau sebuah adjective maka fungsinya tetap sebagai penjelas noun.

Determiner terdiri dari articles (a, an, the), quantifiers (some, any, many),
DI demonstratives (this, that, these, those) dan possessives (my, your, his, her,
their, Julia’s, Steve’s, dll).
S Subjektif (sifat) : beautiful, cheap, ugly, obedient, dll.
U Ukuran: small, tiny, big, short, long, huge, giant, dll.
MUR Umur: old, young.
TU Bentuk: square, triangle, oval, dll.
WA Warna: red, black, white, red, blue, dll.
A Asal: Malaysian, Indonesian, Japanese, dll.
MA Material: plastic, wooden, glass, dll.
N Noun: book, student, house, shoes, dll.

Contoh:
- A bike (determiner + noun)
- A new bike (determiner + adjective + noun)
- A new green bike (determiner + adjectives + noun)
- A new green mountain bike (determiner + adjectives + noun + noun)

Maka kita bisa melihat, dengan semakin banyak kita menambahkan modifier yang beragam,
maka sebuah noun phrase akan menjadi lebih spesifik.

C. FUNGSI NOUN PHRASE

Sama halnya dengan kata benda, noun phrase juga bisa berfungsi sebagai subject, atau
object. Contoh:
- Many cases of infectious disease found in Nigeria is spreading in some nearest
countries. (subject).
- He walked on the Mail Street and met a wet and stinky dog lying on the road. (object)
