ABSTRACT
This research study about the reflection of the Banjar and Dayak Meratus
Tribe community in Indonesia in the Jendela Seribu Sungai novel (2018) by
Miranda Seftiana and Avesina Soebli with Ian Watt's Sociology of Literature
theory which focuses on the reflection of society. The problems studied in this
research include (1) how is the sociological background of the author Miranda
Seftiana; (2) how is the social situation when the literary work was published; (3)
how is the content of' the text in Jendela Seribu Sungai novel (2018) by Miranda
Seftiana and Avesina Soebli; (4) how does the reflection of society in Jendela
Seribu Sungai novel (2018) by Miranda Seftiana and Avesina Soebli.
This research is qualitative research. The material object in this research
is the Jendela Seribu Sungai novel (2018) and the formal object in this research is
a reflection of society. Data collection techniques used are reading, taking note
and interview with the author. The data that has been collected will be analyzed
using Ian Watt's study of Sociology and Literature.
The results of this study include the mindset of Miranda Seftiana who
cares about the environment and puts forward the principles of humanity, the
principle of equality, and the principle of justice without distinguishing ethnicity
and culture. Miranda Seftiana through her literary works wants to show the local
culture of Banjarmasin and Dayak Meratus and the problems that exist in them,
and that the Dayak Meratus community has become part of the tribes in
Indonesia, so they need the same rights as other communities. The correlation
between the author's sociology, the social situation at the time the literary work
was published, and the narrative order of the novel shows that the novel Jendela
Seribu Sungai (2018) is a reflection of society in the 2000s. The mirror of society
shown in the novel Jendela Seribu Sungai (2018) by Miranda Seftiana and
Avesina Soebli is a reflection of the people of Banjarmasin and Dayak Meratus in
the 2000s, efforts to recognize culture and justice for the rights of the Dayak
Meratus people, and efforts to increasing awareness of the ecological crisis of the
Banjarmasin community.
