• Zat pembasah adalah zat yang mengurangi tegangan permukaan air untuk
memungkinkannya menyebarkan tetes ke permukaan, meningkatkan kemampuan
penyebaran cairan.
• Menurunkan tegangan permukaan menurunkan energi yang dibutuhkan untuk
menyebarkan tetes ke film, sehingga melemahkan sifat kohesif cairan dan memperkuat
sifat perekatnya.
• Salah satu contoh bagaimana agen pembasah bekerja adalah dalam pembentukan
misel. Misel terdiri dari kepala hidrofilik yang membentuk lapisan luar di sekitar ekor

permukaan cairan akan diturunkan, menyebabkan kekuatan perekat untuk
mengalahkan kekuatan kohesif. Ini akan menghasilkan cairan menyebar secara
