Kebisingan didefinisikan sebagai ‘suara yang tak diinginkan’. Saat seseorang mendengar suara, bisa jadi suara tersebut
merupakan kebisingan bagi orang lain, namun siapapun yang terpapar bising sangat berpotensi berisiko. Semakin tinggi
tingkat kebisingan, dan semakin lama seseorang terpapar, maka risiko menderita sakitnya semakin tinggi pula.
Jutaan pekerja di dunia terpapar tingkat kebisingan yang sangat berisiko terhadap pendengaran mereka. Efeknya dapat
membuat kerusakan pendengaran sementara atau permanen dan dapat menurunkan efisiensi pekerja.

Untuk meminimalisir dan pencegahan hal tersebut, maka dalam setiap lingkungan kerja terutaina yang berhubungan
dengan proses industri diharuskan melakukan pengukuran tingkat kebisingan suara yang dihasilkan dari proses
industrinya untuk menjaga kesehatan orang orang yang berada dilingkungan tersebut.
