Kata Pengantar

Puji Syukur kehadirat Allah SWT karena atas limpahan rahmat-Nya sehingga saya dapat
menyelesaikan Modul materi procedure text manual ini. Modul ini merupakan salah satu tugas PPG
yang saya tempuh di Universitas Halu Oleo. Modul ini juga bertujuan untuk membekali peserta didik
akan teks prosedur manual. Modul ini juga dilengkapi dengan latihan dan tes formatif untuk menguji
pemahaman peserta didik terkait dengan materi yang terdapat pada modul.

Saya mengucapkan terima kasih kepada berbagai pihak yang telah membantu proses penyelesain
modul ini, terutama kepada fasilitator dan semua teman-teman PPG yang telah membimbing dan
memberi saran maupun kritik kepada penyusun dalam pembuatan modul ini.

A. INTRODUCTION

1. Short Description

Welcome to the learning activity. In this learning activity, you will learn about
Procedure Text; Manual..

2. Relevance

In order to help your comprehension on the procedure text, this first learning activity
provides you with social function, text structure, language features, and content
comprehension of given procedure text:manual, and that information is covered in learning
materials, links of sources, assignments, an interactive forum discussion, and ended with a
formative test.

3. Learning Guide

For helping you to maintain and build your personal relationship and interaction with
other people, this first learning activity requires you to observe and read all materials given,
and do all assignments in the context of daily basis. The analytical approach is required to be
implemented. By implementing those activities, you will comprehend and be able to create
your procedure text: manual that suit you.

ever given information or tell someone how to do or not to do something? Do
you know what kind of the text we use to give information how to do or not to

b. Social Function of Manual as A type of Procedure Text
Procedure text is a text that explains or helps us how to make or use something.
It’s social function is to describe how something is done in sequenced steps. It provides a
series of steps in sequence that explain the readers how to do something while allowing
them to reach the outcome successfully. The communicative purpose of the text is to tell
the steps of making or doing something
c. Generic Structure of Manual

This section will help you understanding towards the structure of procedure text. You need
to read the two texts of procedure text manual. You also need to read and listen again to the
previous video given. Understanding those materials will help you to understand the
stucture of procedure text manual. Let’s have a look at back to the previous video and then
look at the following two procedure manual! Then answering questions provided in task 2.

d. Language features of procedure text manual

As stated by Nurdiono (2016), there are several language features that are commonly
used in constructing a procedure text. The description of each feature is depicted below.

Generally using simple The simple present is a verb tense with two

present tense. main uses. We use the simple present tense


when an action is happening right now, or
when it happens regularly e.g I feel great!

Using adverbial of We use the sequence adverbs to describe


sequence or using the order in which two or more actions
temporal adjective. happen. For example first, second, the last,
etc.)
Using imperative Imperative sentences are used to issue a
sentences or command. command or instruction, make a request, or
offer advice. e.g : put the noodles on the . . .,
cut the onion. . ., wash the tomatoes.

Using action verbs An action verb is a verb that expresses


physical or mental action. e.g : make, take,
boil, cook
Using adverbial (adverbs) Using adverbial adverbs to express detail the
time, place, manner, accurate. E.g for five
minutes, 2 hours, etc.

C. Closing Activity
1. Summary

Procedure text is a text that explains or helps us how to make or use


something. Its social function is to describe how something is completely
done through a sequence of steps. Communicative purpose of this text is to
describe how something is made through a sequence of actions or steps.

There are three generic structures in procedure text. The first is goals or
purposes. The second is materials or tools. The third and the last are steps or
methods.
