Checking for Understanding


Setelah belajar bagaimana meminta serta memberi perhatian, selanjutnya kita akan belajar
bagaimana cara mengecek pemahaman seseorang atau lawan bicara kita terhadap apa yang
kita bicarakan. Intinya menanyakan apakah lawan bicara kita paham atau tidak?

 Showing Appreciation
Merupakan ungkapan yang digunakan untuk memuji atau memberikan komentar positif
terhadap seseorang atau lawan bicara kita mengenai prestasi, kepunyaan dan yang lainnya. Ada
banyak frasa yang bisa digunakan dalam ucapan ini, diantaranya ialah sebagai berikut.
1. What + adjective and nouns
Jika kita ingin memuji seseorang, bisa menggunakan pola di atas dan untuk contohnya bisa lihat
di bawah ini:
● What a great bag! (tas yang bagus!)
● What a beautiful day! (hari yang indah!)
● What a nice phone! (telpon yang keren!)

2. How + adjectives + you are!


Kita juga bisa menggunakan kata how, namun bukan kata tanya.
Berikut contohnya:
● How clever you are. (betapa pintarnya kamu)
● How beautiful this flower. (betapa indahnya bunga ini)

3. I like your + noun


● I like your shoes. They are unique. (saya suka sepatumu. Unik)
● I like your attitude (saya suka tingkah lakumu)

Selain pola di atas, ada beberapa ungkapan pujian lain yang juga bisa digunakan dan
diantaranya ialah sebagai berikut.
4. Great! ( keren)
5. Good Job! (Bagus)
6. Well done! ( kerja yang bagus)

Untuk personal point of view di atas, maksudnya ialah ketika kita ingin memberikan
opini pribadi, menurut saya, menurut pengalaman saya, saya percaya bahwa.

Namun bagaimana jika kita ingin memberikan opini secara umum? maka kita bisa
menggunakan general point of view di atas, seperti some people say that (beberapa orang
mengatakan bahwa), it is generally accepted that……. (secara umum diterima bahwa……….)

Ketika kita setuju dengan opini orang lain atau lawan bicara kita, maka teman-teman bisa
menggunakan frasa pada agreeing with an opinion, seperti of course (tentu), yes, I agree (ya,
saya setuju), I think so too ( saya sepakat), dan yang lainnya.
Sebaliknya, jika anda tidak setuju dengan pendapat seseorang, maka anda bisa menggunakan
frasa disagreeing with an opinion, seperti I’m not sure about that (saya tidak yakin dengan
itu), I’m sorry to disagree with you, but… (maaf saya tidak setuju denganmu, tapi…)
