Good morning students, marilah kita berdo`a terlebih dahulu untuk mengawali pembelajaran pagi
ini.

Pagi ini kita akan mempelajari tentang INTENTION, AGREEMENT/DISAGREEMENT , untuk

pertemuan 1 kita mempelajari INTENTION (in order to/so that ) terlebih dahulu.

INTENTION, AGREEMENT/DISAGREEMENT

1. Expression of intention (in order to / so that)

Uraian Materi

Intention (in order to / so that: agar / supaya)

*So that and in order to are used to tell someone’s intention. ( so that dan in order digunakan untuk
menyampaikan maksud tujuan tertentu)

*In order to is used in more formal situation. (In order digunakan untuk situasi formal)

*After so that, we use pronoun ( setelah so that kita menggunakan kata ganti : I, you, they, we, she,
he, it).

*after in order to, we use verb. ( setelah in order kita menggunakan kata kerja )

*Both so that and in order to can be used with Simple Present Tense and modal verbs : can, would,
will, etc.

Contoh

Read the following sentences. Pay attention to the bold-typed expression.

1 He always studies hard so that he can pass the test.

2 Please turn down the volume so that you can hear me.

3 I’ll tell you the best route so that you will arrive on time

4 She turns off her hand phone in the evening in order to get some rest.

5 We will provide you with the right guidance and advice in order to get the best solution.

Read the following dialogue. Pay attention to the bold-typed expression.

 Rina : Well, you should do your homework soon in order not to forget it.

Situation: Rina is playing at Hesti’s house and they are talking about their school homework.

Hesti : Hello, Rina. What are you doing?

Rina : Oh Hi, Hesti. I am reading a book.

Hesti : What book are you reading?

Rina : Ehm..Biology.

Hesti : But why? We don’t have a Biology homework.

Rina : Well, I read it again and again so that I can remember the material well.

By the way, have you finished your Math homework, Hes?

Hesti : Ehm..not yet.

Rina : Well, you should do your homework soon in order not to forget it.

Hesti : You’re right, Rina. Thanks for reminding me.

Rina : No problem.

EXERCISE ( Latihan ):

Complete the dialogue below with so that or in order to.( Lengkapilah percakapan berikut dengan
menggunakan so that atau in order to)

Koko : Huuugh....!

Kiki : What’s the matter, Ko? You look so angry.

Koko : Yeah. You know, i will have Mathematic test tomorrow.

Kiki : So, what’s the problem? Just prepare yourself well.

Koko : That’s the problem. I can’t learn it well. Can you help me?

Kiki : Well, that’s not a big problem. You have to concentrate (1)......................... be able to learn well.

Koko : I have tried hard to concentrate but it was in fain.

Kiki : Ko, do you have a problem?

Koko : What do you mean?

Kiki : I’m sorry but maybe you have a serious problem. You think about it all the time
