Background: diabetes mellitus or DM is a disease in which there is a high
increase in glucose levels that affects insulin function and secretion in the body
which causes abnormal metabolic disorders. Introduction: Diabetes, a disease
that attacks the endocrine system diagnosed with abnormal blood glucose levels,
is one of the most common and fastest growing diseases worldwide, it is estimated
that it will affect 693 million adults in 2045,1 an increase of >50% from 2017.
Diabetes is the seventh most common indirect cause of death globally and is
associated with direct causes of death, such as cancer, coronary heart disease
and stroke. context: People with diabetes generally follow a chronic disease
course in which disease progression is slow and symptoms of acute respiratory
distress, which are of unexpected origin from a managed disease process, can
result in emergency department presentation or hospital admission. Acute
respiratory distress not infrequently forms the progression and weakness of other
geriatric syndromes leading to emotional distress, further functional decline,
delayed recovery, and ultimately death. Result: Diabetes at the end of life is a
challenging situation that must be urgently considered by various factors,
including ethical principles. Palliative care focuses on suffering that lasts a
lifetime and maintains independent functioning and quality of life. Conclusion:
palliative care in general aims to prioritize their quality of life expectations and
personalize therapy and clinical course. It specifically addresses palliative care,
managing diabetes during the transition to the end of life, planning follow-up
care, managing diabetics and their families, and terminal care that can be
provided in the last few days and hours of life.
