 " PENGERTIAN "
Non Directional Beacon (NDB) adalah Fasilitas Navigasi Penerbangan yang
bekerja dengan menggunakan frekuensi rendah (Low Frequency) dan dipasang
pada suatu lokasi tertentu didalam atau diluar lingkungan bandar udara sesuai
fungsinya. NDB menjadi salah satu fasilitas rambu udara radio yang paling
sederhana dan menjadi persyaratan minimal yang diperlukan bagi suatu bandar
udara.

 CARA KERJA NDB
Pemancar NDB memancarkan sinyal carrier & sinyal identifikasi kesegala arah
(omnidirectional) berupa isyarat medium frequency (MF) dengan menggunakan kode
morse. sinyalnya akan diterima oleh pesawat udara yang dilengkapi dengan ADF
(Automatic Direction Finder). ADF ( Automatic Direction Finder ) bertugas memproses
sinyal yang diterima dengan memisahkan sinyal carrier dan sinyal informasi.
Hasil proses ditampilkan berupa informasi arah pada panel instrument Radio Magnetic
Indicator ( RMI ) ,Relative Bearing Indicator ( RBI ) dan untuk informasi ident nya
ditampilkan berupa audio tone pada speaker. sehingga penerbang dapat menentukan
arahnya menuju ke stasiun NDB tersebut.
