MODUL I
“DILEMA ETIK”
DISUSUN OLEH :
PENDAHULUAN
kegiatan tutorial.

SCENARIO
I. Conjoined Twins
FK UMI 5
Bioetika, Humaniora & Profesionalisme Kedokteran
Twin girls born in Manchester on August 8, 2008. The name was not
announced, but by a British court for the sake of convenience named Mary and Jodie.
By medical terms, they are very heavy. Their hip bones and spine stick with the whole
lower part of the body connect. The legs are in place in a cross position crosswise. The
situation was seen in figures released by Hospital St. Mary's. Heart and lungs Mary
does not work, anyway brain is not fully developed. Jodie looked in a normal physical
state, but the heart and lungs get heavy loads, because it must also provide oxygenated
blood to his brother. According to the doctors this situation can only last three to six
months. If this situation is left longer, are both going to die.
Thus the case of conjoined twins, this presents a dilemma that is very sad.
Parents, medical staff, and all those involved in this case face a very difficult choice. If
Mary and Jodie are not separated, they are both going to die. If they are separated
through surgery, Mary would have died, because he could not breathe alone, while
Jodie has a good chance to live with a rather normal, even in a state disability and had
to undergo many more operations to gradually correct the physical condition.
The second baby girl parents are devout followers of the religion. They argue,
Mary and Jodie should not be separated, because of their love for these two children the
same size. They can not accept that the weakest must be sacrificed to the most
powerful. Therefore they choose to hand the whole matter to God's will. If both of these
infants died later they were willing to accept it as God's plan. The medical staff at the
hospital Mary's did not agree. In accordance with the general medical instincts, they
assume that life may be saved, must be helped as well.
