There are two types of the text organization you can learn. The first type is for a formal situation. The
second type is for a casual situation.
1. Situation: Someone is showing you a direction to go to the post office, but you don’t understand it.
You want more explanation from him.
Excuse me Sir; can you repeat your explanation to me please? (Asking for clarification)
Situation: You need to meet your teacher to tell him about your project.
I’m sorry Sir; may I have your attention, please? (Asking for attention)
Excuse me Sir; can you give your comment on this poem, please? (Asking for an opinion)
Explanation:
Type 1 is for a formal situation. In case you find the subject is He/She/It please remember to always use
Verb 1 without any additional s/es since we have MODAL. You will find the example in the exercise.
Type 2 is for a casual situation. In this form you may see these symbols […..] in [WH questions]and
[NOUN]. Those symbols indicate that they are optional. Optional means you may omit them from the
text. Check the detail below!
However, please pay attention to the use of DO/DOES when using this type. You use DO if the subjects
are: I, You, We, and They. DOES is used if the subjects are: He and She. Moreover, when using DOES you
don’t need to use any additional s/es with the verb because DO and DOES are the auxiliary verbs.
Note: when asking for appreciation, it is easier to use the second type.

People give clarification if the point of conversation is important. People give appreciation statement if
they receive a compliment or appreciation from someone else. Giving and responding to giving opinions
are also important to learn so that you can share what you think about something in proper ways. Look
at the following explanation:

In giving your respond you should not forget to use Verb- s/es if the subject is HE/SHE/IT. For more
explanation, see the illustration below!
Note: This answer is not correct because the verb must be verb –s since the subject is ‘she’.
IMPORTANT POINTS
In writing your respond, sometimes the use of adjective is optional. It means, you may find certain verbs
such LOVE and LIKE where you don’t need an adjective.
Moreover, in choosing the possessive pronoun you should be careful. Pay attention to the noun and
make sure of the referring. The subject can’t always be the measurement in determining the possessive
pronoun because it is not always referring to the subject.
