Hortatory Exposition adalah jenis teks atau materi lisan persuasif dalam Bahasa Inggris yang

digunakan untuk menjelaskan pembaca atau pendengar bahwa sesuatu tidak boleh atau harus
dilakukan. Sama seperti teks Analytical Exposition, jenis teks ini juga sangat populer di kalangan
akademika dan dapat ditemukan dalam buku-buku ilmiah, jurnal, majalah, artikel koran, pidato
akademis, dan lain sebagainya.

Jenis teks ini memang sangat identik dengan teks Analytical Exposition, namun terdapat tujuan yang
berbeda pada kedua teks ini. Jika teks Analytical Exposition bertujuan untuk membuat pembaca atau
pendengar sadar akan suatu isu, teks ini bertujuan untuk memaksa pembaca atau pendengar untuk
setuju dengan apa yang disampaikan. Selain itu, terdapat perbedaan pada struktur teks untuk
membedakan kedua jenis teks tersebut.

Ciri-ciri Hortatory Exposition :

 Merupakan teks persuasif yang disertai alasan-alasan yang mendukung.

 Menggunakan Simple Present Tense
 Menggunakan kata penghubung seperti first, second, third, next, furthermore, additionally
dan lain sebagainya.
 Berisi rekomendasi yang biasanya diawali dengan: in my opinion, it is better…, for these
reasons, should…, I think… should…, dan lain sebagainya.

Generic Structure of Hortatory Exposition

Hortatory Exposition mempunyai generic structure tersendiri. Dalam teks ini terdapat tiga bagian
penting yang harus dimiliki, yaitu:

 Thesis
Berisi pendapat penulis atau pembicara terkait topik yang dipermasalahkan.
 Arguments
Arguments berisi tentang pendapat-pendapat yang mendukung ide pokok. Semakin banyak
pendapat yang dituliskan, maka sebuah Hortatory Exposition Text semakin menarik karena
pembaca atau pendengar cenderung percaya terhadap suatu peristiwa jika terdapat banyak
pendapat yang mendukung di dalamnya.
 Recommendation
Berbeda dengan teks Analytical Exposition yang mempunyai Conclusion (kesimpulan), teks
ini mempunyai bagian rekomendasi untuk pembaca sebagai penutup teksnya. Rekomendasi
berisi saran yang ditujukan kepada pembaca mengenai topik terkait yang dibahas pada teks.

Why Students Should Manage Their Stress

Stress among student can be caused by interpersonal which includes the factor like
relationships with family and friend or because of the academic itself. Workload of college,
difficult tests, and other academic obstacles may also lead to stress. Thus, stress among
students can be dangerous for several reasons. Firstly, major negative effect of stress is on
emotional health.

Emotional health problem is more dangerous than physical health problem because
it can lead to most disastrous effects of all that is committing suicide. Emotional or mental
health is an expression of our emotions and signifies a failure adaptation to the range of
demands in life. The stressful life events can lead to all the failure just by conquering our
mind. Thus, it is very important to maintain our mental and emotional health because once
our emotional health was disturbed, it can lead to various of diseases such as depression,
anxiety, emotional eating, anger and so on.

The second disastrous effect of stress to an individual especially students is on

academic performance. Actually this effect affected students beyond their thinking. Once
they are in stress they have difficulty to concentrate on their study and finally their result
will ruin because they cannot do well in their exams. That is how their academic
performance shows such negative improvement from day to day because they cannot
manage their stress well. Therefore, stress can be dangerous to student’s life. For those
reasons, it is better that we should find the causes of stress which we are going through,
know the bad effect that we may face and take actions to manage it.
