terkait penggunaan teknologi dan kiat- kiat (tips), dengan memperhatikan
fungsi sosial, struktur texts, dan unsur kebahasaan, secara benar dan
sesuai konteks.

Tujuan Pembelajaran :
Melalui proses pembelajaran terkait teks prosedur siswa dapat :
- Membedakan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan teks
khusus dalam bentuk teks prosedur.
- Menangkap makna kontekstual terkait fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan
unsur kebahasaan teks prosedur.
- Menyusun teks tulis khusus dalam bentuk teks prosedur terkait
penggunaan teknologi dengan memperhatikan fungsi sosial, struktur
teks, dan unsur kebahasaan, secara benar dan sesuai konteks.

PROCEDURE TEXT

Have you ever seen manual books? What are they? Have you read them?
Are they useful for you? When we buy the electric product, we can get the
manual book inside the packaging box. The manual book consist of
information about how to install in the product, how to use the product, and
others. The consumer can learn the products by reading the books
without asking someone else. If they follow the instructions written on the
manual well and correctly, they can solve their problem.Without manual
books, the consumers will not know the product at all. In this chapter, we
are going to discuss social function, structure, and language feature of
procedure text in the form of manual books related to the use of
technology and the tips.

A. Procedure Text : Manual Books

Manual books belong to procedure texts. According to Oxford
Dictionary, a manual book is a book giving instructions or information. In
other words, manual is a document that provides instructions or guidelines
on how to perform an activity and serves as a reference book on the
activity. Most consumer manuals or publications provided in the product
box contain the following parts:
- Product information : details or descriptions about what a product can
or will do.
- Instruction manual : instructions how to build, install, or use a
product. Instruction often include safety information, and restrictions for

use such as age recommendation.
- Warranties : details about manufacturer and owner responsibilities if
the product does not work properly.
- Consumer advice : tips and suggestions for consumers to use in
their daily lives.

The definition of procedure text.

A procedure text is a text that contain " how to" instructions or steps
in doing something. In other words, the structure of this text is made to
give an idea how something is done through sequential steps.

Social function of procedure text ( manual teks )

Manual are flexible documents that can be used for different purposes.
The following are purposes of manuals related to the use of technology.
- To explain how a work activity is to be performed ( procedures
manuals ) and focused on daily work activities ( operation manual )
- To serve a guide and reference for the use of a particular tool or piece
of equipment ( user's manual )
- To provide instructions on how to maintain and repair equipment
(service and maintenance manuals)

General Structure of procedure text

· Goal (tittle) : the purpose of the procedure
· Material : thing are needed to do something
· Steps or directions ( in order ) : sequential steps to do procedure text.

Language feature of procedure text

- Use simple present tense
- Use imperative sentence : plug the cable
- Use action verb : put, turn, plug
- Use numbering : first, second, third
- Used conjunction : next, then, while
- Used adverbs : correcly, carefully, for two minutes.

Example of a procedure text

How to Connect a Wireless Mouse
First, plug in your mouse's receiver to your computer's USB port.
Then, the mouse driver will automatically be installed t detect the
the wireless mouse.

Second, make sure that your mouse has batteries or is charged.

To do this, flip the mouse over and remove the battery
compartment cover.

Third, turn on your mouse. Usually the on / off switch is on the

back of the mouse.

Finally, your wireless mouse is ready to use.
