4.8 Menangkap makna secara kontekstual terkait fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur
kebahasaan teks explanation lisan dan tulis, terkait gejala alam atau sosial yang tercakup
dalam mata pelajaran lain di kelas X
1. Apperception (Apersepsi)
Sebelum masuk ke pembahasan, coba perhatikan dulu gambar dibawah ini. Gambar apakah
dibawah?
Betul sekali, gambar diatas adalah gambar dari siklus/ proses terjadinya hujan. Teks
Explanation yang akan kita bahas pada Bab ini sangat berkaitan dengan penjelasan suatu
kejadian. Jika gambar proses hujan diatas diuraikan dalam bentuk teks, maka kita akan
menulis sebuah teks tentang proses terjadinya hujan dari awal hingga akhir. Seperti itulah
isi dari teks Explanation. Lebih lanjut, Explanation Text biasanya ditemukan dalam bentuk
artikel.
3. Kinds (Jenis-jenis)
There are two kinds (dua jenis) of Explanation Text that are generally known, they are:
a. Sequential Explanation Text (Teks Explanation Penjelasan Rangkaian)
Sequential Explanation Text describes about natural and non-natural phenomenon,
for example: Life Cycle. (Teks Explanation Rangkaian menjelaskan tentang kejadian
alami dan non-alami, contohnya: Siklus Kehidupan.)
Visual Text
Everybody likes honey. Human have used honey for several purposes.
General Statement Even, it can be a medicine for most deseases. But have you ever
thought about how is Honey Made? Let me explain to you about the
process of making honey.
First of all, Honeybees use nectar to make honey. Nectar is almost
Sequence 80% water with some complex sugars. In fact, if you have ever pulled
Explanation 1 a honeysuckle blossom out of its stem, nectar is the clear liquid that
drops from the end of the blossom.
Second, bees get nectar from flowers like clovers, dandelions, berry
bushes and fruit tree blossoms. They use their long, tubelike tongues

Explanation 2 their “honey stomachs”. Bees actually have two stomachs, their honey
stomach which they use like a nectar backpack and their regular
stomach. The honey stomach holds almost 70 mg of nectar and when
full, it weighs almost as much as the bee does.
Sequence Furthermore, they bring the nectar into their beehive. Honeybees
Explanation 3 must visit between 100 and 1500 flowers in order to fill their beehive
with honey nectar. The honey is used as their own food.
Conclusion So in Conclusion, honey is made by several natural processes

it into their stomach and they bring the nectar into their beehive.
7. Exercise (Latihan)
Translate the example text above into Bahasa Indonesia, by looking into the following
points:

teks nya, untuk setiap paragraf/ mana paragraf General Statement, dsb.)
b. Underline the Chronological Connections (Garis bawahi setiap kata urutan
kronologis yang kamu temukan pada teks diatas)
