3. SINOPSIS KURSUS / COURSE SYNOPSIS

Bahasa Malaysia:
Kursus ini menerangkan konsep-konsep yang berkaitan dengan kesihatan awam termasuk dari
aspek epidemiologi, penyakit berjangkit dan tidak berjangkit dan faktor-faktor yang
mempengaruhi kesihatan masyarakat. Ia akan merangkumi rangka kerja epidemiologi, dan reka
bentuk kajian yang digunakan dalam kajian epidemiologi dan peranan epidemiologi dalam
kesihatan awam. Selain itu,elemen-elemen pencegahan dan promosi kesihatan juga akan
dibincangkan. Seterusnya, pemahaman disiplin teras kesihatan awam dan aplikasi pengetahuan
dan kemahiran untuk menyumbang kepada kesihatan masyarakat , komuniti dan kumpulan-
kumpulan yang kurang bernasib baik juga akan diberikan .

Bahasa Inggeris
This course explains the concepts related to public health including from non-communicable
diseases and factors that affect the health of society. It will cover the epidemiological framework,
and the study design used in epidemiological studies and the role of epidemiology in public
health. In addition, elements of prevention and health promotion will also be discussed. Further,
an understanding of the core disciplines of public health and the application of knowledge and
skills to contribute to the health of communities and disadvantaged groups will also be provided.

Students are given the optional to visit one of the two sites
Pelajar diberi pilihan untuk memilih salah satu daripada dua tempat lawatan.

A. VISIT TO WATER PLANT, PENANG


Students need to visit the nearby water plant in groups according to the
suitability of their time. Each group consists of 5 students. Each group should
write a report on water treatment. Each report must be accompanied by the
name of the group member. Before visiting the plant, students need to get a letter
of permission to visit the plant from PPPJJ, USM.
You need to take note of the following:
1. Things that can contribute to water pollution and purified water resources
2. How water treatment is done. Added mineral ingredients and the role of those
ingredients.
3. The role of water treatment from a public health perspective.

Reports must be submitted no later than 31 March 2023.

LAWATAN KE LOJI AIR, PULAU PINANG


Pelajar perlu membuat lawatan ke loji air yang berhampiran secara berkumpulan
mengikut kesesuaian masa masing masing. Setiap kumpulan terdiri daripada 5
orang pelajar. Setiap kumpulan perlu menulis satu laporan mengenai rawatan air.
Setiap laporan perlu disertakan dengan nama ahli kumpulan. Sebelum lawatan ke
loji, pelajar perlu mendapatkan surat kebenaran untuk melawat loji dari PPPJJ,
USM.
Pelajar perlu mengambil perhatian kepada beberapa perkara berikut:
1. Perkara –perkara yang dapat menyumbang kepada pencemaran air dan
sumber air yang dibersihkan.
2. Bagaimana rawatan air dilakukan. Bahan-bahan mineral yang ditambah
dan peranan bahan-bahan tersebut.
3. Peranan rawatan air dari perspektif kesihatan awam.

Laporan mesti dihantar tidak lewat dari 31 Mac 2023.

B. VISIT TO STATE OFFICE OF LEMBAGA PENDUDUK &


PEMBANGUNAN KELUARGA NEGARA (LPPKN), KEPALA BATAS,
PULAU PINANG

Students who do not have the opportunity to visit Virology Unit, they are
required to visit to the State Office of LPPKN located at Kepala Batas, Pulau
Pinang. Each group consists of 5 students. Each group should write a report on
health program
conducted in LPPKN. Each report must be accompanied by the name of the group

member. Before visiting the site, students need to get a letter of permission to
visit the LPPKN from PPPJJ, USM.

Students need to take note of the following:


1. To understand the health programs conducted in LPPKN.
2. To learn their experiences in conducting the health program (e.g: health
screening &, family planning)

Reports must be submitted no later than 31 March 2023.

LAWATAN KE PEJABAT NEGERI LEMBAGA PENDUDUK &


PEMBANGUNAN KELUARGA NEGARA (LPPKN), KEPALA BATAS,
PULAU PINANG.

Pelajar yang tidak berpeluang melawat Unit Virologi, mereka dikehendaki untuk
melawat Pejabat Negeri Lembaga Penduduk & Pembangunan Keluarga Negara
(LPPKN), yang terletak di Kepala Batas, Pulau Pinang. Setiap kumpulan perlu
menulis satu laporan mengenai program kesihatan yang dijalankan di LPPKN.
Setiap laporan perlu disertakan dengan nama ahli kumpulan. Sebelum lawatan ke
LPPKN, pelajar perlu mendapatkan surat permohonan kebenaran untuk melawat
LPPKN dari PPPJJ, USM.

Pelajar perlu mengambil perhatian kepada beberapa perkara berikut:


1. Memahami program kesihatan yang dijalankan di LPPKN.
2. Mempelajari pengalaman staf LPPKN dalam mengendalikan program
kesihatan (cth: saringan kesihatan & perancangan keluarga)

Tarikh akhir laporan yang lengkap hendaklah dihantar pada atau sebelum 31 Mac
2023.

2 ASSIGNMENT/ TUGASAN 10%
Students will be given topics on communicable or non-communicable diseases.
You are required to make an infographic related to the given topic. Marks will
be given based on the problem solving and writing communication skill and
teamwork. Students will work in groups to be determined later. Each group is
required to select one topic listed below
1. Malnutrition (Overweight among children)
2. Vaccination for kids
3. Osteoporosis
4. Alzheimer Disease
5. Mental Health & its management
6. Leptospirosis
7. Hypertension
8. Parkinson Disease
9. Influenza
10. Overuse social media among children

It should be noted that this infographic will also be used for future health
promotion presentations. Infographics need to be submitted by 12 midnight 28
Febuary 2023 via portal e-learning.

Pelajar akan diberi topik tentang penyakit berjangkit atau penyakit yang tidak
berjangkit. Anda dikehendaki membuat infografik berkaitan dengan topik yang
diberi. Markah akan diberi berdasarkan penyelesaian masalah, komunikasi
tulisan dan kerja berpasukan. Pelajar akan bekerja berkumpulan yang akan
ditentukan kemudian. Setiap kumpulan dikehendaki memilih satu topik yang
disenaraikan di bawah.

sebelum 12 mlm 28 Febuari 2023 melalui portal e-learning.

CONTINOUS ASSESSMENT (CA) /PEPERIKSAAN BERTERUSAN(PB)
20%
During intensive course, students need to answer the continuous assessment in
the form of a quiz within 11/2 hours. There will be 40 Multiple Choice Questions
(MCQ). Each question has 5 alternatives and students are required to answer
all the alternative with TRUE or FALSE answer.

Semasa pembelajaran intensif, pelajar perlu menjawab peperiksaan dalam bentuk


kuiz dalam masa 11/2 jam. Terdapat 40 Soalan Pelbagai Pilihan (MCQ). Setiap
soalan mempunyai 5 alternatif dan pelajar diminta untuk menjawab semua
alternatif dengan jawapan BETUL atau SALAH.

4 HEALTH PROMOTION PRESENTATION 10%

Students are expected to present via online with the help of infographics that
have been made. Marks will be given based on communication skill, written
communication and teamwork. The duration of the presentation should be 10
minutes and 5 minutes for the question-and-answer session. All students must
participate in the presentation.

Pelajar akan membuat pembentangan promosi kesihatan atas talian dengan


bantuan infografik yang telah dibuat. Markah akan diberi berdasarkan
komunikasi lisan, komunikasi tulisan dan kerja berpasukkan. Pembentangan
hanya mengambil masa 10 minit dan 5 mint untuk sesi soal jawab. Semua
pelajar mesti mengambil bahagian dalam pembentangan.
