Disadvantages of Matrix
structures
¢ Higher cost
¢ Two supervisor system is susceptible to power struggles.
¢ Problem and frustrations occur when functional supervisors
and team leaders don’t coordinate well and end up sending
conflicting massages and priorities or even competing with
one another for authority.
¢ May develop “groupies” where strong team loyalties cause
a loss of focus on larger organizational goals.
¢ Team meeting can take lots of time.
