Lets in new light through chinks that time has made.2
C. Tokoh-Tokoh Terkenal
1. Drama
a. William Wycherley (1640-1715)
bermanfaat. Dia menghasilkan empat drama dalam lima tahun: Love
in a Wood (1671), The Gentleman Dancing-Master (1672), The
Country-Wife (1674), and The Plain Dealer (1676).
Karya
terbaiknya tiga komedi terbaiknya adalah The Relapse (1696), The
Provok'd Wife (1697), and The Confederacy (1705).4
c. Thomas Otway (1651-1685)
Drama pertamanya,
Alcibiades, was produced in 1675; then followed Don Carlos (1676),
The Orphan (1680), and his masterpiece, Venice Preserv'd (1682).
2. Puisi
a. John Dyrden (1631-1700)
Karya-

karya terkenalnya meliputi puisi epik seperti "The Aeneid" (Virgil's
translation), "Absalom and Achitophel," serta "Mac Flecknoe."
seperti "All for Love" dan "The Conquest of Granada."
b. Samuel Bualer (1612-1680)
3. Prosa
a. John Bunyan (1628-1688)
Dalam ranah prosa Restorasi, Bunyan sendiri menentang supremasi
Dryden.
“Grace Abounding” (1666), semacam otobiografi agama. Dia paling
dikenang sebagai penulis alegori Kristen “The Pilgrim's Progress”,
yang juga menjadi model sastra yang berpengaruh.
b. Lord Halifax (1633-1695)
Miscellanies. Buku ini berisi sejumlah risalah politik, seperti “The
Character of a Trimmer”, dan sebuah karya yang lebih umum yang
disebut” Advice to a Daughter”.

Mac Flecknoe
BY JOHN DRYDEN
A Satire upon the True-blue Protestant Poet T.S.
6
Edward Albert, History of English Literature, (Wellington Square: Oxford University Press, 2017),
h. 175.
Thou last great prophet of tautology:
Even I, a dunce of more renown than they,
Was sent before but to prepare thy way;
And coarsely clad in Norwich drugget came
To teach the nations in thy greater name.
My warbling lute, the lute I whilom strung
When to King John of Portugal I sung,
Was but the prelude to that glorious day,
When thou on silver Thames did'st cut thy way,
With well tim'd oars before the royal barge,
Swell'd with the pride of thy celestial charge;
And big with hymn, commander of an host,
The like was ne'er in Epsom blankets toss'd.
Methinks I see the new Arion sail,
The lute still trembling underneath thy nail.
At thy well sharpen'd thumb from shore to shore
The treble squeaks for fear, the basses roar:
Echoes from Pissing-Alley, Shadwell call,
And Shadwell they resound from Aston Hall.
About thy boat the little fishes throng,
As at the morning toast, that floats along.
Sometimes as prince of thy harmonious band
Thou wield'st thy papers in thy threshing hand.
St. Andre's feet ne'er kept more equal time,
Not ev'n the feet of thy own Psyche's rhyme:
Though they in number as in sense excel;
So just, so like tautology they fell,
That, pale with envy, Singleton forswore
The lute and sword which he in triumph bore
And vow'd he ne'er would act Villerius more.
Here stopt the good old sire; and wept for joy
In silent raptures of the hopeful boy.
All arguments, but most his plays, persuade,
That for anointed dullness he was made.
Berikut adalah contoh prosa dari John Dyrden berjudul History of the Royal
Society:
Of all the Studies of Men, nothing may be sooner obtain’d than this vicious
Abundance of Phrase, this Trick of Metaphor, this Volubility of Tongue, which
makes so great a Noise in the World ... They [the Royal Society] have therefore
been more rigorous in putting in Execution the only Remedy, that can be found
for this Extravagance; and that has been a constant Resolution, to reject all the
Amplifications, Digressions, and Swellings of Style; to return back to the
primitive purity and shortness, when Men deliver’d so many Things, almost in
an equal number of Words. They have exacted from all their Members, a close,
naked, natural way of Speaking; positive expressions, clear Senses; a native
Easiness; bringing all things as near the mathematical Plainness as they can; and
preferring the Language of Artizans, Country-Men, and Merchants, before that
of Wits, or Scholars.8

C. Kesimpulan
Heroic Couplet.
