 Elemen dalam kalimat
• Ada 4 elemen yang terdapat dalam kalimat,
yaitu, subject, predicate, object, dan modifier.
• Setiap kalimat wajib memiliki subject dan
predicate. Ada pula kalimat yang ditambahkan
elemen lain, yaitu complement dan modifiers,
tetapi tetap harus ada subject dan predicate-
nya.
 Subject
• Subject kalimat adalah hal yang melakukan
tindakan dan hal yang dibicarakan.
• Subject dibentuk dari kelas kata noun,
pronoun, dan noun phrase.
Contoh
I live in Indonesia
Dita and Susan are students
My sister is still a baby.
 Predicate
• Predicate dalam kalimat adalah tindakan yang dilakukan
oleh subject kalimat. Predicate juga merupakan kata
bantu yang menghubungkan subject dan complement.
• Predicate dalam bahasa Inggris dibentuk dari verb, be,
dan verb phrase.
Contoh
John is handsome.
They hate spinach.
He drives so fast.
Mommy will take me home this evening.
 Complement
• Complement adalah kata yang melengkapi predicate.
Berfungsi untuk menerangkan apa yang
dikerjakan/diberi tindakan oleh subject.
• Complement menjawab pertanyaan ‘apa’ dan ‘pada
siapa’.
• Complement dibentuk dari noun, pronoun, dan noun
phrase.
Contoh
John buys a cake today.
They will call Mary this afternoon.
 Modifier
• Modifier adalah kata atau frasa yang memberi
keterangan berupa waktu, tempat,dan cara.
• Modifier menjawab pertanyaan kapan, dimana, dan
bagaimana.
• Modifier dibentuk dari frasa yang terdiri dari adverb dan
gabungan preposisi dan noun.

We will eat dinner at seven o’clock.
The milk is in the refrigerator.
She eats slowly.
 Soal
• George is cooking dinner tonight.
• Henry and Marcia will visit the president.
• We can eat lunch in this restaurant today.
• Pat buys gasoline in the store.
• Trees grow.
• It was raining at eight o’clock this morning.
• She opened a checking account at the bank last
week.
• Harry is washing dishes right now.
 Soal
• She opens her drawing book in her room.
• Paul, william and Mary were watching TV a fe
minutes ago.
• He was driving very fast.
