Pemodelan Matematika Dasar
Seorang pemain ski es seberat 80 kgf melakukan “down hill” dan diketahui gaya tolak udara sekitar
4.8 kg/dtk.
peluruhan substansi/materi radioaktif.
Contoh 2: Peluruhan Radioaktif
Waktu Paruh adalah waktu yang diperlukan suatu atom radioaktif berkurang menjadi
setengah dari jumlah mula-mula.
Dari persamaan diperoleh fungsi peluruhan suatu atom radioaktif setiap saat:
Jadi
Atau
adalah rata-rata masa hidup (lifetime) substansi radioaktif.
Jadi waktu paruh
Contoh:
Waktu paruh zat Polonium kurang dari 1 microsecond.
Waktu paruh zat Thorium-232 lebih dari 1 milyar tahun.
Contoh Soal
Berapakah massa isotop radioatif yang tersisa setelah mengalami tiga kali paruh
waktu, apabila massa mula-mulanya 80 g?
Jika massa mula-mula dari isotop Iodine 200g, berapakah massa Iodine setelah 30
hari? (diketahui masa waktu paruh Iodine 8 hari).
Jika waktu paruh Thorium-232 adalah 1 milyar tahun, berapa rata-rata masa
hidupnya?

Contoh: Hukum Pendinginan Newton
The temperature of a body dropped from 200o to 100o for the first hour. Determine
how many degrees the body cooled in one hour more if the environment temperature

rata-rata masuk : kg/gal gal/menit = kg/menit
rata-rata keluar : kg/100 gal gal/menit = kg/menit
Contoh 5: Pertumbuhan Populasi
Pertumbuhan populasi ada proses dinamik yang dapat dimodelkan dengan persamaan

Model Mathusian (Thomas Robert Malthus, 1798): Pertumbuhan populasi sebanding
dengan populasi awalnya)
4. A tank contains100 gal of water and 50 oz of salt. Water containing a salt concentration of oz/gal
flows into the tank at a rate of 2 gal/min, and the mixture in the tank flows out at the same rate . Find
the amount of salt in the tank at any time.
5. A home buyer wishes to borrow $250,000 at an interest rate of 6% to finance the pur chase. Assume
that interest is compounded continuously and that payments are also made continuously.
(a) Determine the monthly payment that is required to pay off the loan in 20 years; in 30
years.
(b) Determine the total interest paid during the term of the loan in each of the cases in
part (a).
Free Fall (Benda Jatuh Bebas)
Formulate a differential equation describing motion of an object
falling in the atmosphere
Variables: time t, velocity v
Newton’s 2nd Law: F = ma = m(dv/dt) net force
Force of gravity: F = mg downward force
Force of air resistance: F = v upward force
Then
dv
m mg v
dt
Taking g = 9.8 m/sec2, m = 10 kg, = 2 kg/sec,
we obtain
dv
9.8 0.2v
dt
v 9.8 0.2v
Sketching Direction Field (2 of 3)
Using differential equation and table, plot slopes (estimates)
on axes below. The resulting graph is called a direction
field. (Note that values of v do not depend on t.)

Direction Field Using Maple
Sample Maple commands for graphing a direction field:
with(DEtools):
DEplot(diff(v(t),t)=9.8-v(t)/5,v(t),
t=0..10,v=0..80,stepsize=.1,color=blue);
When graphing direction fields, be sure to use an
appropriate window, in order to display all equilibrium
solutions and relevant solution behavior.
Pertumbuhan Populasi: Mice and Owls
Consider a mouse population that reproduces at a rate
proportional to the current population, with a rate constant
equal to 0.5 mice/month (assuming no owls present).
When owls are present, they eat the mice. Suppose that the
owls eat 15 per day (average). Write a differential equation
describing mouse population in the presence of owls.
(Assume that there are 30 days in a month.)
