Simple Present Tense

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE adalah gramatika yang digunakan untuk mengekspresikan kebiasaan sehari-hari,
termasuk aktivitas rutin serta kalimat pernyataan fakta secara umum.

Bila Anda ingin mengutarakan suatu hal, kejadian situasi yang selalu atau biasa terjadi, baik di masa lalu,
kini, dan mendatang, maka tense inilah yang harus Anda gunakan.

Format kalimat untuk mengutarakan sesuatu dalam simple present tense adalah:

1. Kalimat positif

Simple Present Tense: Subject + Verb (s/es)

• I/You/They/We + Verb

• She/He/It + Verb (s/es)

Contoh:

-I go to school

-She goes to work

-He eats breakfast

-We eat dinner

-It excites me

2. Kalimat negatif

Simple Present Tense: Subject + Do/Does not + Verb

• I/You/They/We + Do not + Verb

• She/He/It + Does not + Verb (s/es)

Contoh:

-I do not smoke

-She does not drink alcohol

-We do not watch TV

-It does not match


3. Kalimat pertanyaan

Simple Present Tense: Do/Does + Subject + Verb?

• Do + I/You/They/We + Verb + ?

• Does + She/He/It + Verb + ?

Contoh:

-Does he listen to music?

-Do you hate me?

-Do I love her?

-Does break-up feel hurt?

Dalam bentuk simple present tense biasanya terdapat kata keterangan (adverb) yang berkaitan dengan
waktu sebagai pelengkap bahwa aktivitas tersebut merupakan hal yang kerap/selalu, namun bisa juga
jarang/tidak pernah, dilakukan.

Adverbs tersebut antara lain adalah:

-Always

-Usually

-Often

-Sometimes

-Seldom

-Rarely

-Never

Bila Anda perhatikan, adverbs di atas kami urutkan mulai dari yang frekuensinya tertinggi hingga yang
terendah.

Sehingga bila digunakan untuk mengutarakan aktivitas/kebiasaan akan seperti berikut ini:

1. Saya selalu minum susu saat sarapan

2. Ia tidak pernah minum susu saat sarapan. Ia biasanya minum kopi di pagi hari
3. Guru saya terkadang memberi kami pekerjaan rumah

4. Kami tidak punya banyak uang, sehingga kami jarang bepergian

5. Keluarganya sering makan malam pada pukul tujuh

Present Continuous Tense

PRESENT CONTINUOUS/PRESENT PROGRESSIVE TENSE adalah gramatika yang digunakan untuk


mengekspresikan suatu aktivitas yang sedang terjadi/berlangsung pada saat ini.

Aktivitas tersebut sedang terjadi atau sedang dalam progres (karena itulah disebut juga dengan present
progressive) saat Anda mengutarakannya.

Aktivitas dimulai di masa lalu, kini sedang dalam progres, dan kemungkinan masih akan berlangsung di
masa mendatang atau tidak diketahui kapan aktivitas tersebut akan usai.

Format kalimat untuk mengutarakan sesuatu dalam present continuous tense adalah:

1. Kalimat positif

Present Continuous Tense: Subject + To be (am/is/are) + Verb (ing)

• I + Am + Verb (ing)

• You/They/We + Are + Verb (ing)

• She/He/It + Is+ Verb (ing)

Contoh:

-I am reading a newspaper

-She is writing a letter

-We are having a trip

-It is very exciting

2. Kalimat negatif

Present Continuous Tense: Subject + To be (am/is/are) + Not + Verb (ing)

• I + Am not + Verb (ing)

• You/They/We + Are + Not + Verb (ing)


• She/He/It + Is + Not + Verb (ing)

Contoh:

-The baby is sleeping

-They are not leaving

-We are not studying

-I am not talking to her

3. Kalimat pertanyaan

Present Continuous Tense: To be (am/is/are) + Subject + Verb (ing) + ?

• Am + I + Verb (ing) + ?

• Are + You/They/We + Verb (ing) + ?

• Is + She/He/It + Verb (ing) + ?

Contoh:

-Are you reading?

-Is your father working?

-Are they cleaning the room?

-Am I bleeding?

Bentuk positif dari kedua struktur di atas dapat disingkat menjadi: I’m, you’re, she’s, he’s, it’s, they’re,
dan we’re.

Bentuk negatif dari kedua struktur di atas dapat pula disingkat menjadi: don’t, doesn’t, aren’t, dan isn’t.

Namun, bentuk negatif dari am dan not tidak dapat disingkat.

The simple present tense is a grammatical used to express everyday habits, including routine activities
and general statements of fact.

If you want to state a matter, the occurrence of a situation that is always or ordinary, whether in the
past, present, and future, then this is the tense you should use.

The phrase format to present something in the simple present tense is:

1. Positive sentence

Present Continuous Tense: Subject + To be (am/is/are) + Verb (ing)

• I + Am + Verb (ing)

• You/They/We + Are + Verb (ing)

• She/He/It + Is+ Verb (ing)

Example:

-I am reading a newspaper

-She is writing a letter

-We are having a trip

-It is very exciting

2. Negative sentence

Simple Present Tense: Subject + Do/Does not + Verb

• I/You/They/We + Do not + Verb

• She/He/It + Does not + Verb (s/es)

Example:

-I do not smoke

3. Interrogative sentence

Simple Present Tense: Do/Does + Subject + Verb?

In the simple present tense, there is usually an adverb related to time as a complement that the activity
is something that is often / always, but can also rarely / never, be done.

These adverbs include:

-Always

-Usually

-Often

-Sometimes

-Seldom

-Rarely

-Never

If you pay attention, we sort the adverbs above from the highest to the lowest frequency.

So that when used to express activities / habits it will be like this:

1. I always drink milk at breakfast

2. She never drinks milk at breakfast. She usually drinks coffee in the morning
3. My teacher sometimes gives us homework

4. We don’t have much money, so we rarely have vacation

5. Her family often has dinner at 7 PM

Present Continuous Tense

PRESENT CONTINUOUS / PRESENT PROGRESSIVE TENSE is a grammar used to express an activity that is
happening / taking place at this time.

The activity is happening or in progress (that's why it's also called the present progressive) when you
speak it.

Activities started in the past, are currently in progress, and may still be ongoing in the future or it is not
known when they will end.

The sentence format for saying something in the present continuous tense is:

1. Positive sentences

Present Continuous Tense: Subject + To be (am/is/are) + Verb (ing)

• I + Am + Verb (ing)

• You/They/We + Are + Verb (ing)

• She/He/It + Is+ Verb (ing)

Example:

-I am reading a newspaper

-She is writing a letter

-We are having a trip

-It is very exciting

2. Negatif sentences

Present Continuous Tense: Subject + To be (am/is/are) + Not + Verb (ing)

• I + Am not + Verb (ing)

• You/They/We + Are + Not + Verb (ing)

The positive form of the two structures above can be abbreviated as: I'm, you're, she's, he's, it's, they're,
and we're.

The negative form of both structures can also be abbreviated as: don't, doesn't, aren’t, and isn’t.

However, the negative forms of am and note cannot be abbreviated.
