Tujuan Pembelajaran

Setelah mengikuti kegiatan Task Based Language Teaching , peserta didik dapat
membedakan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan
beberapa teks khusus dalam bentuk teks caption, dengan memberi dan
meminta informasi terkait gambar /foto /tabel/grafik/ bagan, sesuai
dengan konteks penggunaannya, menangkap makna secara kontekstual
terkait fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan teks khusus
dalam bentuk caption terkait gambar/foto/tabel/grafik/bagan serta
menyusun teks khusus dalam bentuk teks caption terkait
gambar/foto/tabel/grafik/bagan, dengan memperhatikan fungsi sosial,
struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan, secara benar dan sesuai konteks dan
menunjukan sikap beriman dan bertakwa kepada Allah yang Maha Kuasa, ,
jujur, santun, responsif dan disiplin,

membacakan, menganalisis dengan tabel
- Membuat caption untuk beberapa foto pribadi: Menggunakan tabel
yang sama, merancang untuk membuat caption foto-foto tersebut
- Menempelkan di dinding kelas untuk dibaca temannya

- Membahas captionnya dengan teman dan guru yang datang membaca

Read and comprehend the following lesson material

A caption, also known as a cutline, is text that appears below an image. Most captions
draw attention to something in the image that is not obvious, such as its relevance to the
text. Captions can consist of a few words of description, or several sentences

What is the purpose of a caption?

• A caption should provide information about a photo.
• A caption should entice the viewer to learn more about the subject and read the story.
• A caption should NOT leave any questions in the reader’s mind.

Parts of Caption
1. A headline
2. An identification sentence
3. A secondary information sentence
4. A quote

Know the DO’s…..

KKKKKLKKKKKKKKKKKNOW THE DO’S...NOW THE DO’S...
• List three to five words that grab the reader’s attention and link the photo and caption
together
• Lead-in states the obvious in an unobvious way
• Include the five Ws and H
• Use a variety of adjectives and adverbs
• Be descriptive
• Use strong, visual specific nouns
• Consider the action before and during the photo and reaction to the event
• Use colorful, lively, visual action verbs
• Write in present tense, active voice (unless changing tenses to make it logical)
• Be factual
• Use a variety of sentence patterns
• Identify all people in picture (up to seven)
• Use complete sentences
• Use first and last names

Know DON’TS …

•Don’t state the obvious

• Don’t begin leads with names or overuse same lead
pattern
• Don’t use label leads (example: basketball girls, swimmers, etc.)
• Don’t use an excessive amount of –ing verbs
• Avoid “During” to begin your lead as it’s overused
• Don’t use “Pictured/Showed Above,” “Seems/Attempts to”
• Avoid using “to be” verbs
• Don’t use “gag” or joke captions
• Don’t comment or question the action in the picture; you are telling the reader what
happened, not conversing with him
DON’T
There are several criteria for a good caption.
A good caption

1. clearly identifies the subject of the picture, without detailing the obvious.
2. is succinct.
3. establishes the picture's relevance to the article.
4. provides context for the picture.
5. draws the reader into the article.

 Clear identification of the subject

One of a caption's primary purposes is to identify the subject of the picture. Make
sure your caption does that, without leaving readers to wonder what the subject
of the picture might be. Be as unambiguous as practical in identifying the subject
 Succinctness
Succinctness means using no superfluous or needless words
 Establishing relevance to the article
A good caption explains why a picture belongs in an article

 Providing context for the picture

 A picture captures only one moment in time

 Drawing the reader into the article

The caption should lead the reader into the article.
