COMPREHENSION AND DEMOCRATIC ATTITUDE THROUGH TEAMS
GAMES TOURNAMENT (TGT) COOPERATIVE LEARNING MODEL WITH
PUZZLE ON CLASS X IPS 4 OF SMA NEGERI 8 SURAKARTA STUDENTS IN
ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2017/2018. Thesis, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education,

The current study was aimed at 1) Finding out whether the implementation of
Teams Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model with puzzle can enhance
class X IPS 4 of SMA Negeri 8 Surakarta 2017/20182017/2018 academic year students’
history comprehension; 2) finding out whether the implementation of Teams Games
Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model with puzzle can enhance Class X IPS 4 of
SMA Negeri 8 Surakarta 2017/2018 academic year students’ democratic attitude.
This study was categorized as Classroom Action Research (CAR), it was done in
cyclical method; each cycle consisted of four stages, planning, action, observation, and
reflection. The subject of the study was twenty-five students of Class X IPS 4 SMA Negeri
8 Surakarta. The data of the study were obtained from teachers, students, and history
learning process. The data collection techniques of the study were test, observation,
interviews, and questionnaires.
The result of the study showed that: (1) The implementation of Teams Games
Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning with puzzle could improve the students' history
comprehension. It was proven by the increase in the percentage achievement of the value
of history comprehension (KKM = 73) in each cycle. In the preliminary stage, seven
students (30.43%), in cycle I, it increased to thirteen students (54.17%) and in cycle II, it
increased again to be twenty-one students (80.00%). The achievement of cycle II has
passed the target determined by this research (≥75%); (2) The implementation of Teams
Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model with the puzzle can improve the
Class X IPS 4 SMA Negeri Surakarta 2017/2018 students' democratic attitude. It could be
proven by the average percentage of students democratic attitude which increased in every
cycle. In preliminary stages, the average percentage of students' democratic attitude was
61.59%. In cycle I, it increases to 70.31% and in cycle II, it becomes 78.43%. The
achievement of cycle II has passed the research target of ≥75%.
Based on the result of the study, it could be concluded that the implementation of
Teams Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning with puzzle can improve the Class
X IPS 4 SMA Negeri 8 Surakarta 2017/2018 academic year students’ history
comprehension and democratic attitude.
