Descriptive text is a text used to give a detailed information (description) about a particular
object. It describes particular object like things, animals, persons or places, for instance: pets or
persons we know well.
The generic structure of a descriptive text consists of two main parts: a) identification or general
statement; and b) description.
a) Identification introduces and identifies specific objects (a person, thing, place, animal, or
event) intended to be described. It is used to gives a general idea about the object we want
to describe.
b) Description describes the intended objects using descriptive details or information about
the objects’ characteristics, appearances, personality, habits, or qualities.

My friend Tim
His name is Tim. He lives in Nottingham, which is a city in the UK. He lives in a small
detached house with his wife Jenny, and their two children, Lisa and James.
He works at Debenhams in Nottingham, and he really enjoys his job. He is a sales manager for
the sports clothing department. Debenhams is the largest department store in Nottingham and
there are branches all over the UK.When He is not at work, he likes to play tennis with his
friend Joe. Joe is much better than him, but he still enjoys it.
At the weekends, he sometimes takes his family to Manchester to visit Jenny’s mum. She lives
at Pine View Nursing Home in a nice suburb of the city and has been there for about five

Language Features of descriptive text
- Biasanya Lebih sering menggunakan simple present tense untuk menjelaskan ciri-
ciri terkait subjek yang dibahas. Contoh: she is my class mate, he has strong arms,
dan lain-lain.
- Menunjuk kata benda (noun) tertentu yang spesifik, seperti my class mate, her pet,
his shoe, our school, dan lain-lain.
- Penggunaan berbagai jenis kata sifat (adjective) yang bersifat mendeskripsikan
subjek (describing), menjelaskan jumlah (numbering), dan juga
mengklasifikasikan (classifying). Contoh: four strong legs, a strong horns, two big
round eyes, dan lain sebagainya.
- Menggunakan relating verbs untuk memberikan informasi mengenai subjek.
Contoh: it has good voice, it is black, the market is near from here,
Jakarta is east of Bandung, dan lain-lainnya.
- Menggunakan thinking verbs atau feeling verbs guna mengungkapkan pandangan
penulis secara pribadi terkait subjek yang dideskripsikan. Contoh: I think she is
quite nice, I think my bedroom is the best place to live, I feel that he is a warm
and honest person, dan lain-lainnya.
- Menggunakan bahasa figuratif (analogy) atau perumpamaan untuk menjelaskan
sifat yang terdapat pada subjek. Contoh: My little sister is as sweet as candy, She
is not as black as she is painted, today is as hot as in the desert, dan lain-lain.
- Menggunakan action verbs guna menjelaskan perilaku atau kebiasaan subjek yang
dibahas. Contoh: she always comes on time, my mother always prepares the
breakfast ever morning, I always do my homework every day, dan lain-lain.

1. Lembah Pelangi Waterfall has two levels where the
waterfall on the second level has two branches. The
height of the first level waterfall is about 100 meters,
while the second level waterfall is about dozens of
meters. The best enchantment of this waterfall is the
rainbow which appears between the valley and the
waterfall as the name suggests. The soft flowing
gurgling waterfall sounds is like a chant of nature
which can remove the tiredness of the long trip to go
there. Under the waterfall, there are several spots of
warm water which can be an interesting spot for
bathing
2. In this place, you will be shown a panorama of
natural beauty which is very interesting for every
pair of eyes seeing it. Rocky hills accompanied by
leafy trees will actually soothe both your eyes.
3. Lembah Pelangi Waterfall sounds unfamiliar for
either local or foreign tourists. Lembah Pelangi
Waterfall is located in Sukamaju village, Ulubelu sub
district, Tanggamus district, Lampung province,
Indonesia. The access to this place is quite difficult
because Ulu Belu sub district is a remote area in
Lampung with its hilly contours which make this
tourist spot elusive

No Paragraph Generic Structure
1. The top of the National Monument (Monas) is
Freedom Square. It stands for the people's
determination to achieve freedom and the crowning
of their efforts in the Proclamation of Independence
in August 1945. The 137-meter tall marble obelisk is
topped with a flame coated with 35 kg of gold. The
base houses a historical museum and a hall for
meditations. The monument is open to the public and
upon request the lift can carry visitors to the top,
which offers a bird's eye view on the city and the sea.
Go early to beat the crowds and the haze. It is easy
for the less physically able as lifts take visitors to the
top. The diorama exhibition in the basement gives
such a distorted view of Indonesian history.
2. The National Monument, or "Monas" as it is
popularly called, is one of the monuments built
during the Sukarno era of fierce nationalism.
3. This imposing obelisk is Jakarta's most famous
landmark. Construction started in 1961 under
President Soekarno but was not completed until
1975, under President Soeharto. The monument
houses a couple of museums. The Freedom Hall
depicts Indonesia's struggle for independence
through a series of dioramas, whereas the Hall of
Contemplation displays the original Declaration of
Independence document and a recording of the
speech.
