A. Definition of Recount Text


Recount text is a text to retell past event or someone’s experience.

B. Generic Structure of Recount Text


1. Orientation : It gives the readers the background information needed to understand the
text, such as who was involved, where it happened, and when it happened.
2. Events : Tell what happened in chronological sequence.
3. Re-orientation : A personal comment about the event or what happened in the end (optional)

C. Social Function of Recount Text


The purpose of a recount is:
1. To retell past event or someone’s experience.
2. To give information of past event
3. To entertain other people with someone’s experience

D. Language Features of Recount Text


– Using the simple past tense
– Using adverb of time, such as : last week, 2 years ago, etc
– Using the conjunction, such as: then, before, after, etc.

A Beautiful Day at Jogja

Last week, my friends and I went to Jogja. We visited many places. Orientation

First, we visited Parangtritis beach. The sun shone brightly and the scenery was
very beautiful there. We felt the wind blew across to us. We also saw a lot of people
in that beach. There were many birds flew in the sky. Also, there were many sellers
who sold many kinds of souvenirs. Second, we visited Gembira Loka Zoo. We saw Events
many kinds of animals there such as monkeys, tigers, crocodiles, snakes, etc. We
looked around in that Zoo, and also took pictures of those animals. Then, we felt
hungry, so we went to a restaurant. As soon as we finished our lunc, we decided to
go home.

For me, that was a beautiful day though I could not visit Malioboro. We really

Visited Lawa Cave

Last week we went to our parents’ house at Trenggalek. We went there


by the train started from Yogyakarta and stopped at Tulungagung station. Orientation
There is no train station at Trenggalek. Therefore after arrived at
Tulungagung we continued our vacation by bus to go to Trenggalek.We was
so happy because we did not visit there yet for a long time. We stayed there
for three days and we had a plane to go to some tourism place.

The most interesting thing from our vacation that time was at the
second day we visited Lawa cave. Lawa is Javanese terms which means
cave bat and that is true that the cave is the home for thousand bats.We
went there with the whole family so that the trip was so fun. My grandma
was 80 and she was so excited and still powerful to go inside the cave. We
could find a river in that cave and the water was so cold. To go deeper Events
inside the cave we need light so we rented a lamp and hire a guide for our
safety. After 4 hours explored the cave, we felt tired and we went out. At
the outside of the cave then we searched for the local restaurant and had a
nice launch.

the rider was a woman. She was dark skinned and looked strong. Along the journey, they had a chit-
chat. The rider told him about her life. She is a wife with three children. She was simple, but had a
great dream. She wanted her children to be successful. As a mother, she was willing to work hard for
her children’s education. She never gave up. She belived that her hard work would be paid off.
Vandra was amazed at the horse cart rider’s story. What a great woman.

First Flight Experience


It was early morning on sunny spring day in April Heathrow Airport Londonwas very busy.
I was sitting, reading a newspaper in the Departure Lounge of Terminal One. I was nervous I would
fly. I looked at my watch impatiently.
Then, I heard the announcement over the loudspeaker: British Airways announce the departure of
Flight BE570 for Istanbul. Passengers please proceed to Gate 16 for boarding. Hearing that
announcement, I picked up my suitcase and walked toward Gate 16.
Twenty minutes later, the plane taxied preparing to leave. It moved slowly across the airport to
runway number two. I was sitting looking out of the window. The plane suddenly moved forward,
raced down the runway and rose into the air. I looked down at the houses and roads far below.
I was smiling. London was behind me. I was on my way to Istanbul.

having a quick dip in the ocean, which was really cold and windy, we realized that there were

to spending time there went back to their country.

2 Last year, at the end of the year, my family and I decided to spend our holiday at Tanjung Setia

Last year, my family and I had a vacational to Jakarta, to visit Aunt Marina. We had planned to go
there a month before the school holiday. We agreed to go there by train. My father drove us to the
train station before noon. It took only an hour and half to reach the station. We stopped to have lunch
on the way to the railway station. We had lunch at a Padang Restaurant near the station. My brother
requested to have lunch there. After that, we continued to our trip to the station. The train departed
from Gubeng Station at 4 p.m. it was my first time to travel by train. Unfortunately, the train was a
night train, so I could not see the scenery. I only saw rice fields, mountains and many other beautiful
sunset sceneries before the night came. We arrived at Gambir Station at 5 in the morning. It took
more than two hours by car. Finally, we arrived at his house. Aunt Marina and her daughter, Dayana,
had cooked special breakfast for us. After we took at bath, we enjoyed the breakfast together.

a. Orientation: My sister had a graduation ceremony last week. I was sad because I
could not attend the ceremony. I had to attend a robotic competition to represent
my school. Finally, I was the runner up and received the silver medal.
b. Event : When I arrived home, my sister and parents had not arrived yet. I planned
to make a gift for my sister, but I was confused about what I should make to surprise
her. Then, I got an idea. I would make tartcake because my mom still had a sponge
cake. However, I did not know how to decorate a cake. I browsed the internet for
the inredients needed. Lucky for me, I had all the ingredients. I followed the
instructions, I made butter cream using mixer and then add food colouring. Then, I
decorated the cake. Well, it was done. A few minutes later, my parents and sister
arrived. I took out the tart cake and said, “Congratulations!” Surprisingly, they also
said, “Congratulations!” while bringing a box of chocolate.

1 When we arrived at the beach, we were surprised to see the beautiful view of the beach. After
having a quick dip in the ocean, which was really cold and windy, we realized that there were
not many people there. We thought that it happened because it was too windy there during that
time but we finally realized that it was Christmas holiday so almost all of tourists who are used
to spending time there went back to their country.

2 Last year, at the end of the year, my family and I decided to spend our holiday at Tanjung Setia
beach, which located around 234 kilometers from Bandarlampung.
3 The third day there, we decided to go home when we finally made it back home, we were both
totally exhausted because of the trip but we were so happy to travel such an amazing beach
Lampung province has.

4 After spending few times swimming in the beach, we bought some hot chips at the takeaway
store nearby, and we rode our bikes down the beach for a while, on the hard, damp part of the
sand. The next day we visited Labuan Jukung beach. There, we were amazed to see the high
wave owned by this beach. Because it was so high that nobody was brave enough to surf on it
that time.
