02. Safety
Safety is of outmost importance during the sample preparation phase of analysis.
02.01. Never open mills until they have completely stopped.
02.02. Check that safety locks are operating properly.
02.03. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (cloth hand gloves when cleaning
mill) at all times in the laboratory.
02.04. To minimize dust, use a brush to clean the hood mill(s) and duster for work area.
Clean with vaccum cleaner once a week.
02.05. Check that all electrical equipment is properly grounded and maintained.
03. Frequency
03.01. This procedure is been used at Wonokoyo on a daily basis.

04. Procedure
04. Prosedur
04.01. Apparatus and materials:
04.01.01. Gated riffle splitters/ sample dividers with a small chute width (with 3 – 3
holes) for feed and a big chute width (with 4 – 4 holes) for raw materials.
04.01.02. Ultra Centrifugal hammer mill with 0.5 mm (plant protein), 0.75 mm
(animal protein) and 1 mm screen (feed).
04.01.03. Mortar
04.01.04. Sample container
04.01.05. Brushes for cleaning grinders etc.
04.01.06. Compressed air blower or vacuum for cleaning.
04.01. Peralatan dan bahan:
04.01.01. Pembagi sampel dengan lebar saluran lubang kecil (kaki 3-3) untuk
pakan dan lebar saluran lubang besar (kaki 4-4) digunakan untuk bahan
baku.
04.01.02. Ultra Centrifugal hammer mill dengan saringan 0.5 mm (untuk bahan
baku protein nabati), 0.75 mm (untuk bahan baku protein hewani) dan 1
mm (untuk pakan).
04.01.03. Mortar.
04.01.04. Kotak sampel.
04.01.05. Kuas untuk membersihkan mesin penggiling dan perlengkapannya.
04.01.06. Blower bertekanan atau vakum untuk membersihkan.
04.02. Method
Sample splitting :
04.02.01. If the laboratory sample contains large clumps or particles, grind or
mortar sample or it can grind without screen.
04.02.02. Split the laboratory sample using a gated riffle splitter.
04.02.03. Divide mash feed using gated riffle splitters/sample divider. Fill to
sample container into 2/3 obtained. For crumble and pellet feed sample
no need sample divider, only fill to sample container into 2/3 obtained.
And screen the residu with mesh 12 for NIR and record sample. For raw
material, use big sample divider and fill to sample container into 2/3
obtained (use for wet chemistry + NIR analysis and record sample).
04.02. Metode
Pembagian Sampel
04.02.01. Jika sampel laboratorium mengandung partikel atau gumpalan besar,
giling atau tumbuk sampel menggunakan mortar atau bisa juga digiling
tanpa menggunakan ring sieve.
04.02.02. Bagi sampel dengan menggunakan pembagi sampel.
04.02.03. Sample produk tepung di-divider sebanyak satu kali. Dari masing -
masing kotak penampung diisikan ke kotak sampel sampai memenuhi

04.04. Clean up
04.04.01. Remove mill screen and brush sample deposits from all surfaces. If
necessary wipe the surfaces with a damp towel. If sample is difficult to
remove, hot water and/or soap maybe used.
04.04.02. Clean the riffler/ splitter in a similar manner (use brush).
04.04.03. Keep the sample preparation work area well maintained and clean.
NOTE : For heat sensitive analysis (drug, antibiotic, vitamin) other grinding
techniques have to be used.
